Okay this may be stupid but I notice everyone talking about how easy they get wheelspin or wheelhop in first and second gear when they turn DSC off.

Now... if I launch agressively, either drop or slip the clutch with the revs up, yeah I can get the wheels to spin. But if I'm already rolling in 1st... any speed... 5, 10, 15mph, whatever, and punch it, I get NO wheelspin or hop. Same thing in second... I can get the wheels to chirp IF shift very quickly, and I can chirp third if I don't let off that gas all the way during the shift and keep the revs up.

But I see people talking about how they have traction issues in first and second with DSC turned off, and I simply do not have this happen at all. Are people just exaggerating or am I misunderstanding? Or is something wrong with my car??

I even did that 'trick' that's been floating around where you turn the DSC off immediately after starting the car and then the traction control light stays lit as well... no spin or hop in any gear unless I launch agressively.

I even tried turning DSC off when it rained the other day. The rain had stopped but the ground was still somewhat wet. I could get the tires to break loose in first from a roll, but not in second. WTF???

Bone stock car with about 800 miles on it.

............ how the f you getting wheelspin with DSC on? If I launch hard with DSC on I get spin for like a split second and then the traction control light lights up and the PCM cuts power big time. If I shift hard with DSC on it will chirp into 2nd and 3rd and the traction control light lights up.

Either way, on dry pavement I cannot get the tires to break loose once I'm rolling.

My SRT would break loose if I punched it at 5-10mph in first, but it didn't have traction control or any of that. Boost was a bit lower in first, like 10-12 psi vs. the usual 14-16.

Actually... in every turbocharged car I've ever owned boost is always lower in the lower gears... less load on the engine is what I always thought caused that. On my last two cars when I ran manual boost controllers they would still always boost lower in lower gears.

So what do I do if something is causing my car not to make the power it should be???? You KNOW the dealerships won't do jack....

I hate wheel hop. If I turn the DSC off, It doesn't happen. Forgot to turn it off the other day. A bimmer rolled up to the light next to me, and kept inching forward...wanted to play. I thought my car was going to fall apart when I took off. There was a few pebbles on the pavement. It was a two lane going to a one lane thing and everyone tries to be first after the light. You have about 100 feet before the lanes go to one. Even minivans race for it.

it was warmer for a while then cooled back off... been like 40-50 degrees the last couple of days. Expecting snow tonite.

But yeah... DSC on or off, if I dont agressively launch from a stop (clutch slip or drop), I don't get any wheel hop or spin if I punch it after I'm already rolling.

That's weird. I have to really focus on what I do in the first two gears.

With DSC on, the light will flash like crazy when I hit the gas from a roll in
2nd.

I usually dont get slippage until around 4500rpm depending on the conditions, only time I chirp is if I drop the clutch to fast in first or second maybe third... I dont really take off like a Banshee anymore because I dont want to burn up the tires, I just drive fast half way into 2nd. DSC off I can sit and spin all day on ice (no skill or High revving required), I havent even bothered to try on dry payment, Im not into burnouts anymore.... too many tickets over here!!!

I think the wheelspin most people refer to is when launching although I have broken the wheels loose in second from a roll. The boost cut in the first 2 gears on the ms3 is more drastic than on other cars like the srt4 or EVO for example. Also you have to factor in the weight. The ms3 is not light for a fwd and the huge, heavy 18s don't make it any easier.

u floor it off a 2nd roll without poping the clutch and it spins? s*** never happens to me...my car hops when i launch and i spin the tires 1-3 but not off rolls ...unless its a lil wet then its fun lol

My car use to wheel hop aswell. But now it just doesnt want to. I took it to the dealer to see if something was wrong and with all there test they couldt find anything. I noticed the colder it is the wheel hop becomes noticable. But when it is warm here, I cant get wheel hop at all.

Tire compounds have a lot to do with it as well. My drag radials will roast in the summer but as the temp drops down into the 50's they harden and as such bounce around a lot more.

I think the DSC on the MS3 is alittle funny. Sometimes it kicks in real early and makes the car jumpy, other times it acts like its doing nothing at all and i can spin the tires. Hell i even drove in the rain and burn the tires off the car for the first 3 gears. DSC light flashed but nothing happened.

Biggest variable i can think of is the road your driving on. Asphalts seems to be more audiable and also slicker. concret is a better surface, but sometimes it just depends.
If you want to know if your down on power go to a dyno shop and dyno it. Then compare.
