is it true stock bpv goes bad after 20k+ miles?

I have almost 28000 miles on my car and no problems so far. Where did you hear that?
Just get a BPV and feel the difference. I can't believe the difference in boost response between the stocker (mine has about 600 miles on it) and my Forge. Car with the stocker feels like a freaking Buick.(pissed)

I have the Greddy Type-s with the atp adapter flange, after testpipe install mine spikes at nearly 20 psi and settles at about 16.5. Any aftermarket will hold better than the stocker. Its a cheap, well somewhat cheap, upgrade that will make a nice sound and sdifference too. Good luck on the mario coin forge bro!

The OP didn't ask if an aftermarket BPV holds boost better than the stocker. I know the aftermarket ones hold boost better. He asked if the stocker goes bad and needs to be changed at 20K. The answer to that question is no. Mine holds boost the same as it did when it was brand new.

I replaced the stocker at 4300 miles with the Forge and the difference was dramatic. I'm not saying the stocker was leaking or had gone bad because I'm no expert on BPV's. I do know that when I went for the first drive after the install I could not believe the difference in the car.

Even according to a Ford engineer, it is simply a 20k part. The flutter valve is plastic, and after so long of letting excess boost go during normal throttle, it starts to wear the valve out, thus letting more boost than it's supposed to.

It's covered under emissions warranty. He basically said that you'll hear it get louder and louder over time.

I'm dieing to experience these phenominal increases with an aftermarket BPV but can't decide on which one I want. I guess i'll wait till Cobb releases theirs. I absolutely refuse to get Forge, and i'd love to get the synapse if it weren't for the PITA it is to install.

Well, that settles it!
I'm at 21K and now I can justify the purchase to my wife with irrefutable evidence that I need to replace the part.
Thank god for the internets.

Call me a rookie, but what exactly does a bpv do besides make loud noise when you shift? I have heard they dont help with power, its just to get attention haha.

with turbocharging there needs to be a release of pressure from the system in overboost situations, as well as when you abruptly release the throttle, ie shifting or getting off the throttle. The wastegate does this on the exhaust side, and the bypass valve releases the pressure on the intake side. So on short, a bypass valve is most assuredly required on any turbocharged car.

Standard powertrain warranty is 5yrs / 60k miles right?

About 39k to go and I might get one but my stocker seems to be doing it's job just fine. Ran the 1/4 in 13.9@100 with just intake and heatsoaked TMIC so I don't think I'm having any issues with power.

The stock BPV may not affect power, times, etc unless it is majorly leaking. Just replacing the stocker to an aftermarket changes the drivabilty....for the better.

If you are worried about your warranty, just switch it out when you go to the dealer. It takes 10 minutes tops to change the BPV.

I swear if felt like my car pulled harder up top once I changed out the stock bpv, but it might just be the butt dyno. Either way, it is known to go bad, so invest now before it starts leaking.

What do you mean by changes the drivability? I personally think the stock bpv is sufficient and it’s only when people have leaky BPV’S that switching it out renders improvements. Also, I bet the added sound of an after market BPV is probably having some think they’re getting more power when actually they’re not unless of course they started out with a leaking one.

10 minutes if you take your time. It's 2 10mm bolts and 2 hose clamps. It's right in the front too. It's too easy to replace and works much better than the stock valve. @ $150, it's also easy on the wallet. I'm put off by the forge ping but it works well. I deal.
