I'm sitting here at work and was just brainstorming/daydreaming. Is it possible to rig our FS-DE in such a way to exhibit VTEC-like performace? Could we use our stock cam profile for the first 4000rpms or so and then slide the camshaft to a different profile cam with a solenoid? Or am I just being stupid?

It would be almost impossible to convert our head to a VTEC like system. Only options would be to have a new head custom made or retrofit a Honda VTEC head onto ours.

YES you can, its only a matter of money....of course this will also require making a complete frame to channel the body of the P-5 onto...chunk the complete front and rear suspensions as they will not become part of the new frame...most likely A frame type in the front and a coil over in the rear...and of course we are going to put in a narrowed 9 inch ford rear end right? or are we going to do a real custom and put in an IRS from a corvette? that would be sweet too.....talk about a little sleeper!!!!! :{D

The VTEC system works (According to Sport Bike Magazine which did a article on the VTEC system in the New Honda bikes) by slipping a shim essentially between the Cam lobe and the valve. This gives the Valve a longer duration at higher RPMs.

I think trying to do something like this would be crazy personally. Maybe if you don't care if you mess up your MP3 engine.

Plus after everything is said and done, It probably wouldn't be that much power gain.

So far I think turbo is the way to go. Just wait until people like Spoolin and Corky Bell get all of the kinks out and offer a complete kit for a decent price.

actually the AWD from the famila PROBABLY wouldn't handle the 1200HP you could get from the godzilla engine

actually i think the ultimate sleeper would be a duratech V6 with a supercharger ... it would be easy and somewhat cheap... in the end you would have 300+ hp and around 290 lb ft.... and with some better tuning you could get higher than 300 hp

Hey you know what would be really cool. To put that new RX-8 Engine in a MP3 and put turbos on it. That would be awsome the 9,000 something red line with a s*** load of power. Yup to bad the MP3 isnt rear wheel drive though.
