Is anybody experiencing vibration problems with their CX9. I have done wheel balancing twice with a roadforce balancer. I have also just put on new set of rims and tires. I did a google search and found a few people had their drive shaft replaced, saying it was out of round and that solved the problem. Anybody here have this issue at all. I have gone to the dealership three times and they only checked my tires everytime and charged me for balancing saying tires are good. I would like to go back this time with proof of others having the same problem so they can actually look at it.

Have you tried alignment yet?
Drive shaft issue is very rare.

Does the vibration changes with speed or RPM or what?
More observations help diagnosing the problem.

Thanks for your replys, I had on there oem rims and tires. That's when I noticed the vibration, balanced those twice everything checked out fine with roadforce balancer but vibration was still there in the floor of vehicle. Then just bought after market rims and tires not to long ago and rebalanced those again just last weekend. Still vibration is there, I am going to try wheel alignment next but I was told that has nothing to do with vibration. I really don't know. I read in other forums that the tail shaft was defective on some models of cx-9 and especially for cx-7 owners. Once that was changed problem was solved. I'll try alignment first. Thanks for your help.

Interesting post Rikkory. II drive an 08 CX-9 GT AWD and I get a vibration that's intermittent and I swear it's the drive shaft. Recently had wheel bearings replaced, and alignment done. The vibe is most prominent when i make left turns. It's like a rythmic pulsing that I can feel in the floor of the vehicle. If I accelerate during the turn the pulsing stops. I had the vehicle into the shop and the tech told me that it was my M&S tires slipping during turns. I don't think that's it. I do know that the drive shaft rotates continuously even when no power is needed at the rear wheels. Only when the computer senses the need for power to the rear wheels does the rear transfer case engage the driveshaft. I'm not too concerned about the vibration but i would like to know what's causing it so that I can eliminate it.

Dfurdas,
So the replacement of bearing did not stop the issue?

Personally, I doubt it is the drive shaft. Why? Drive shaft does not act differently whether you make a left or right turn.
It is likely the front suspension and drive linkage to the front wheels, especially to the left front wheel.
Try another dealer. You might have better luck.

Hi ceric...see my new thread today. It was the joint shaft bearing. Just shy of a $900 repair. Crazy! Mazda Canada picked up half the cost thankfully.

joint shaft bearing? wait a few years and it will be cheaper to buy an aftermarket half shaft, if one is ever made

Hi,

Having the same problem.

What is the joint shaft bearing?

Do you have a part number?

I have a vibration i can feel through the floor when making a turn from a stop. Its only for a few seconds. The local Mazda dealership replaced my Transfer case thinking that could be the cause, but its still doing it. Kinda wondering if this could be my issue.

xxxmonoxidechil, did you ever figure this out ? I'm feeling the same type of rythmic pulsing that I can feel in the floor of the vehicle and the driver's seat usually above 40 mph , I'm certain it's not the road since I feel the rythmic pulsing even on freshly paved roads. Even had the tires rotated and re-balanced but still feel the pulsing. It's not very noticeable but after driving for more than 25 years, I can feel subtle differences.

I'm almost certain it's a faulty rear shaft bearing that's not supporting the shaft correctly causing the shaft to vibrate.

Yup. I have a really good relationship with my local Mazda dealer. And they thought it was Transfer case related. So replaced the entire unit for me. .. Which didnt change its behavior at all.

They ended up pulling my rear drive shaft, and driving around with just the FWD operating, and the issue totally went away. So they were able to figure out it was something in the rear end itself. So Mazda ordered me up a full brand new rear end and swapped it in. The problem has been fixed ever since. Now i dont know what exactly failed in the rear end as they never showed me. But i can say it was definitely the cause of my issues

I'm having the same issue.

Luckily, my mechanic is one of those guys who will not stop til he finds the problem.

He put it on the lift and had one of his guys fool with the gas pedal.

The issue? The bushings holding the rear end are bad. When he would step on the gas pedal, the differential would jerk around, which would jerk the driveshaft, the transmission, and the engine, which would shake the whole truck. I should have taken video of it, but it was so incredibly obvious I didn't think to do it. The front of the rear differential would point to the ground, I'd say a good 15 to 20 degree swing.

We called Mazda for the bushings. The two on the front of the differential are $133 each, and come with the brackets. The two on the rear of the differential are not sold individually, only with a complete new subframe for like $1200. I googled just the bushings, and was able to track down two for the front and two for the rear at $49 shipped total. Once they get here, my mechanic will swap them out, no idea what labor will be, but it will definitely be less than the $1200 for a new subframe.

@$100T2 where did you buy the bushings from when you googled them up could you be having a link?

Then I’m also planning to get the drive shaft center support bearing for rear and front for my Mazda CX-9 2007 but I don’t know how to remove the axle and install center support bearings. Is there any one here who knows or has instructions on how to install drive shaft center support bearings on a CX-9 2007 drive shaft. Kindly send instructions
Thanks in advance
