Interior Squeak / Rattle Discussion Thread

has any one had any troubles with the audio and cruise controls rattling? it happens so often now that im gonna break my steering wheel off one day. im at 30,000 miles 2007 speed6 would the dealer cover to fix it?

I've got an issue with the drivers seat rocking now. I will look into it this weekend, it's more of an annoyance than a noise though.

I have the rear view mirror creak and it drives me nuts. The louder I turn my music up, the louder it gets. If I put my finger on the center on the glass, it stops. Any fix for this?

The only major rattle I have after almost 3 years is the damn rear view mirror. 1100W & 3 engine mounts will do that =/

Found the rattle in my trunk.. The jack was not secure in the trunk and that caused my trunk/rear deck rattle..

It was nice to finally find the rattle that has been driving me crazy forever..

I've got a high pitched regular squeaking from one of the vents whenever the climate control is on... any ideas to remedy this?

I have been playing with everyones suggestions from the BOSE Emblem on the sub to having someone ride in the back seat and press on the glass in certain spots. I'm at my wits end. I brought it to the dealer and they said Mazda has no TSB on this and can do nothing. (gah) Has anyone called Mazda about this?

I have the most annying squeek and vibration on my passenger side near the back glass. I happens at low rpms and when hitting bumps. Its driving me crazy. I cant find anything in the rear that is loose. Any1 had this before?

I occasionally get a rattle inside the steering column. talk about annoying... its impossible to ignore

my OEM GPS unit is starting to have a little rattle......time to add that one to the signature!! :D

The passenger door plastic unit where the arm rest is rattles like crazy whenever I have the sound system past 12 (stock bose). The whole unit with the door handle to the power window buttons all rattles at high volume.

It really pisses me off :(.

A buddy and I diagnosed and neutralized most of my noises. We tore a bunch of plastics off, the headliner, some dome lights, steering column cover, cup holders... few others: used foam tape in all the areas where pieces came into contact. None of the tape shows and it took only a few hours to do.

The noises that still exist are RPM relative and happen at/or around 2300 because of the terrible resonance from the Magnaflow (Vibrant Ultraquiet resonator coming soon, and will post results).

Cheap foam tape from Home Depot, Osh, Lowes, Ace... anywhere. It's usually in the door/window section meant for weather sealing. I used 3/16" thickness and 1/4" wide stuff.

I stuck the tape to the "stationary" piece, usually metal, leaving the plastic trim piece to vibrate against the foam instead of the framing.

The tape is meant to separate the pieces, not to add mass or damp the vibration.

I didnt touch my doors.... most cars use fragile little plastic pieces to secure panels. I actually found the Mazda ones to be comparatively robust, but you still need to be careful. There's probably a speaker install page somewhere on the site, but otherwise just have at it.

I recommend you buy these cute little door and trim tools: they make dealing with the plastic rivets and pop fasteners a breeze. Auto parts stores and most tool stores have them.

This rattle on the very bottom of my rear window is really starting to get on my nerves. I am starting to have mental issues.

No BS. The rattles are so loud I cant even hear the engine or the exhaust. And my car is pretty loud.

The one most annoying to me is the rattle that comes directly from the horn cover. If I hold that in a certain position, it will stop. It is probably a wire or something that is floating around in there. I think I am going to have to do the whole take off the steering wheel thing and put something behind there. Other than that in the winter, my rear bumper makes a squeeking noise. I have been told that there is some foam behind the bumper that makes the noise when the bumper moves. NO Idea how to fix that, but it doesn't bother me at the moment. YAY for procrastination.
