Interior door panels

Hi guys,

I posted this question a while ago, with no luck finding much help...So with ALL the new members, I thought I would see if someone could offer some suggestions/advice.

The material that is on the door panels, the soft velour stuff, is starting to look worn. If you drive with your arm on the door sill with the window down, this is where its looking worn. Also, the passenger side looks worn as well.

What I am thinking about trying to do is this...Taking the door panel off, and then taking the handle and all that off, so that I will be able to remove the soft velour fabric. I then have some yellow carbon fiber film that I want to put in the place of the velour.

Anyone know how to take the panels off? How hard were they to remove? What do I have to do? OR does anyone have any other suggestions on what else I could do to get rid of this problem?

I have seen that yellow car on protegetech.com. That car's interior has done somthing similiar to what I want to do...Aww...Here, I'll put a pic to show you...

I think the yellow on the dash/glovebox is a little too bright and a little too much for my tastes, but if you look at the door panel, you will see what I want to try to accomplish (just turned down a bit)...

Any help, or discussion on this issue would be really cool, cause its driving me crazy!!!

I would suggest you go and have a "professional" install some nice Leather on the door panels but I assume you are on a budget, so....

Check out This site for information on how to take the panels off and find you a book or something on how to apohlster(sp?) Or look on the internet.

That is a VERY informative site on a stereo install but it shows the steps on how to remove the door panels. If you point your mouse on the word "Info", it tells you what to do.

Hope this helps. :D

Hey thanks for that link, thats the best site I have seen yet.

I am seriously considering finding a junk yard that might have a Protege door panel. If I can get my hands on one, then figuring out how to take that fabric stuff off would be ideal (so that way I don't have to worry about ruining mine!).

Entering a shop didn't even enter my mind. Mainly because I have never been in one, EVER, secondly because if I did enter a shop, I am afraid I would just blindly hand over my credit card and go crazy with no self control. But I am thinking that I might break down and visit one of the local auto customizing shops around here just to see what they got...

That pic that I attached (I think that was the one you were referring to) was from a Protege 5. If you go to protegetech.com and click on their gallery, its one of the 4 cars that you can see. The car looks awesome, the guy did a great job so far with it...He had that stuff done to his ride shortly after the P5 was introduced, so he didn't waste NO TIME!

Well thanks for the help so far, anyone else got any pointers?
