Interior dome lighting...

Hey where are those pictures ? LOL
Actually I just got the 3 LED's from autolumination yesterday.
The 4 LED Blue Dome, and the 194 5 LED Matrix for both Map lights. Turned out I had the polarity switched on one map bulb so it didn't work at first. All is well now and I'm happy with it, so is the wife, I wanted red but she wanted blue, glad I listed to her as blue looks awesome. Maybe I'll post pictures later !

Do the interior lights on the 3 fade in and out theater lighting style?
The reason I ask is I have a 5 and the lights do fade and I was wondering it the LEDs would fade or if they only work once they have enough voltage (lights full on)?

Led's will fade but faster...
So they will fade...but faster huh. Do you think a resistor would fix that? The same way resistors fix the fast blink problem when LEDs are used for turn signals?

Found brighter map light bulbs!

This may be an old thread, but I have found a bulb that is much brighter than the stock map light bulbs. The bulb number is 3652, which is a Hi-output version of the standard 168/194 type bulb. The local NAPA carries these bulbs for $4.44 each, which is cheaper than LEDs or other "performance" bulbs.

I don't have a camera to take before/after pics, but I can give you an idea of how much brighter they are from the specs of each bulb.

194 - 3 watt - 2 candlepower
168 - 5 watt - 3 candlepower (stock bulb)
3652 - 5 watt - 6 candlepower

As you can see by the specs, these should be twice as bright is the stock bulbs. My wife is very pleased with these, says its much easier to find things in the car at night. Also, these bulbs are clear, just like the stock ones, not color tinted.

Now, if I could find a brighter bulb for the center dome light................. ;)

Just keep in mind that they may also generate more heat. Be careful not to melt your light housings.

goldwing you always the partypooper! haha j/k very good observation.
let us know if it does melt or not, i would like to have some more light.

I thought about that before i installed them as I've actually had that happen before with fog lamps (going from 55 watt to 100 watt isn't a good idea!). These bulbs are the same wattage as the stock bulbs, the difference being in the filament type and these draw slightly more amperage.

That said, after I installed the lights, I let the car run with the map lights on for 15 minutes straight. Nothing started smelling funny, and I noticed no extra heat coming from the lamps. After that little test, I'm confident these will work fine. And these are SO much better than stock, I don't think I'd want to go back to the old, dim bulbs again.

UPDATE: I was at one of the local Pep Boys on Saturday and saw that they carried the 3652 bulbs there as well. Price was $9.99 for a pack of two, which is a little more than NAPA was asking for them.

I used LED bulbs from autolumination.net

194 6 LED (need to shave down the housings) and 31mm Festoon 4 LED bulbs for the dome and trunk of the hatch.
