Carbon fiber plumbing?

Don't I know it! I am at the shop several times a week and I am letting the shop guys know it every time. Since this is not their area of expertise, they have to wait on the CF guys to get things done, but they are now passing on the grief that I am giving them to the CF guys.

Last week I saw a thread about someone who had their car on Funk Master Flex's show and he had CF intake and regular SS hardpipes. The CF CAI was the s***! I passed the thread along to my mechanic and gave him some more grief about the CF piping (I am sure they are beginning to get sick of me busting their balls every time I am there). He is getting pssed off that he has to be so hardcore with these guys when they were so gung ho BEFORE the show!

Anyway, I will keep asking about the piping and keep you all posted.

I posted some pics from a local car show of an MP3 with a CF intake. As a matter of fact here is the pic.

Exactly

That is the s***! I mentioned that pic to my mechanic. We want ours to look just like that. The original did....sort of.....except for the big ass joints at the bends from the ghetto-mold the CF guys used. My mechanic and I have said to them that they need to make a proper mold instead of half-assing it. People won't want it if it looks ass.

Update on CF

Went to the garage yesterday. I've become impatient waiting for the CF guys to get a mold for the CAI done. Also didn't want to have them come up with something looking half-ass this time so I took matters into my own hands. I have had a CAI made up out of 2.5" crush-bent pipe. No mandrel bends at the present, but I may consider doing it over if the template doesn't turn out. The CAI will have a bung and nipple for the smaller of the two lines running into the stock intake. I am going to install this CAI on my own car while I wait for the CAI guys to get their s*** together. I will also be using this CAI to provide the mold for the CF when it finally comes to be.

They have been poking their heads around the shop recently as they are working on a hood for another client as well as the CAI/hardpipe combo. Hopefully, we will have something to show in the next little while. I am on my way right now to hit the shop so that I can have the nipple welded to the side of the intake. I will post pictures of the prototype soon. I also found a shop that fabricates custom stainless steel railing and kitchen applianaces who might be interested in fabricating mandrel-bent hardpipes and the CAI. If they can do this effectively then I will use those as a template instead.

I'll check this weekend.

Was away on vacation last week and was out of town for the duration. Have not had a chance yet this week to go into the shop to ask. However, I now have a CAI (aluminized steel) that I fabricated (on my car now) so there shouldn't be an issue about a proper mold now. I will be into the shop this weekend to see what is up.

Just made my apologies to Kingpin. I had intended to go the garage last week to follow up with this CF nonsense, but I got tied up with my wife's car getting it safetied pre-sale. That is a whole other issue that rots my ass, but anyway suffice it to say that I didn't make it to the garage. This week has been a write-off because of call, so it won't be until the weekend that I get there to ask them about it.

You'd think that the CF guys would be all over this s***. This is like a guaranteed money-maker!

no apoligees needed im all about patience. for a quality product to be developed it takes time.

No real news on the CF front. The CF guys are still dragging their asses when it comes to this stuff. Consequently, I have decided to use a different approach. While the guys at the garage are not to blame since it is not them, I don't want to bust their balls. However, these CF guys are contracted out to them and they should be accountable. I have explained a million and one times that there are a lot of people who would be interested in these products if they could just get their s*** together. Perhaps now they should hear from some of those people so that they don't think its just me yapping at them. The contact for the shop is:

info@spazperformance.com

Send them an email or three. Let them hear it from somebody else for a change and maybe they might force the CF guys to "s--t or get off the pot."

I have been trying to think of workarounds for these products and interestingly enough I ran into a mechanical engineer with an MSP who has had experience working with CF and fiberglass for aerospace projects. He is interested in fabricating stuff for the MSP. I am going to call him sometime over the next week to discuss the fabrication of piping, so we might have another option.

Out of curiousity (as I don't know myself, and have not yet researched it), what are the thermal properties of fiberglass? Would it be able to stand up to the heat of the turbo piping?? Would it be stiff enough, or would it melt or crack? Is this a viable alternative to CF?

I second that, I've been watching this thread since its birth, and I have been excited every time I check up on the new postings, keep us informed!

OK. We need more people to email the shop and give them the "what for" on this. I'm not sure what is up with the original CF guys, but nothing productive has come out of them for months. I am trying to get the other guy that I spoke of to go and check out the shop (like his full-time job doesn't keep him busy enough...LOL) to see if it has all the equipment that he needs. He seems to be much more knowledgeable than the original guys anyway. He has experience with custom molding of CF and fiberglass so custom peices are not an issue as far as possibility. We just need to apply some "gentle persuasion" to let the shop know that the interest is there.

Remember, the email is info@spazperformance.com
