so im savin for an intercooler right now..is the fmic worht the extra 300 or so dollars more than say the turbohoses smic..i saw that the turbohoses smic has a direct fitment w/there hardpipes..im just wondering seeing i have the turbohoses hardpipes if fmics are alot better than smics?

what are the pro's and con's because I am kind of curious myself since I too am saving for an aftermarket intercooler. so far I have my heart set on either the kinetic motorsport FMIC or the Hiboost FMIC but im still open to the idea of a SMIC I just want to make sure im going to get a quality product at a good price as well as a part for my car that is actually going to make some sort of differance.

for me it basically came down to how much you want to boost, which comes down to whether or not you want to do your internals at some point. since i don't want to tear my engine apart, i went with a smic.

I'd start by doing a search. There is a ton of information and as the parts came out over the past year or so we discussed it in hundreds of threads. It may be a lot to read but you can make an educated decision after reading on that based on your plans for the car. I don't think you can go wrong persay with either route but each makes sense depending upon your goals and wants.

If you want a SMIC for a great deal, PM CustomMSP and he'll hook you up. He has either tube and fin or bar and plate SMICs for $465 shipped that was as good as any, and work well with turbohoses and spool hardpipes.

If you want an easy install, and don't plan on doing major work to your car, a SMIC is a reasonable mod to go. Dyno charts have shown a 20hp increase with a SMIC alone at 10psi. I'm sure numbers are the same for a FMIC at the same psi, but this is cheaper without hardpipes than a FMIC and a way easier and faster install.

If anything, you should upgrade the IC since the stock one isn't the greatest, and you'll get some really good gains from doing that.

Yes, I agree with the above posters, in that an aftermarket SMIC would be ideal for low to moderate boost...an FMIC for higher boost applications.

you know I think I am going to go with the Hiboost FMIC because of the following,
Looks Awsome, Great Price, from what I hear its a high quality product and finally I hear there are some pretty decent HP gains by installing it.

Hiboost is an excellent FMIC kit, except you'll have to recirc your BOV to prevent stalling. Thats the only downside I can see with that kit, and at that price, its an excellent buy. Everyone should upgrade their IC, it really does suck balls.

You can always get the forge (or any aftermarket bpv) and not worry about the stalling. Works just as good as a bov. Btw... hiboost is great. Don't regret spending the $$ on it. Got it for $800.
