Intake resonator removal vs. SRI/CAI

I removed my intake resonator over the weekend, and when my car hits over 4500 rpm, its loud; the front floor vibrates a little. Has anyone ran their car without the resonator and with the stock airbox and then moved to an aftermarket intake? I like that the powerband seems more even without the resonator, but I hate how loud it is. I'm hoping its just because the airbox wasn't technically designed to run like that, so its making extra noise. If someone has, is the aftermarket intake (particularly the K&N) quieter?
