Intake and CEL issues...

So here it goes....

About a 6k miles ago I put a Cobb SRI on my stock MS6. No issues... I picked up an ATP 3" inlet installed and ran it with the SRI minus Cobb's hose obviously... No issues other than the exhuast began to "pop" between shifts and decelleration pretty often but not all the time. I figured this was normal as the car could get all the air and fuel in it wanted but couldnt burn it all so I knew I was running rich.

Well The weather here in Chicagoland got suddenly warmer and I get a CEL. I also notice some hesitation in 2-3 WOT shifts. Then after cruising on my commute and begin to slow down as traffice builds to stop & go traffic, it tries to die on me but doesnt. So I decide to take off everything and check for leaks. Everything seems fine. I pulled the battery so the codes were cleared. Next day 2 miles from the house and CEL comes back... It almost dies after a stop at a light. But drives 99% fine the rest of the day.

I go to Autozone at lunch and I get the codes pulled. P2097,P2177,P2187 & P2195. Basically all hell has broken loose. I pull everything out again and notice the little thing hanging in the MAF is wet and has black soot on it on the filter side! So I say screw the Cobb SRI (I was getting sick of the whoosh shounds at low speed anyways) and put the stock air box back in but keep the ATP inlet. I cleaned the MAF reset codes (pulled batt) and took it for a ride. Everything seemed great drove for 20-30 min then parked for an hour or so then drove home... CEL back! No stuttering or trying to die yet, but hesitation at 2-3 & 3_4 WOT shifts.

Im going to have the codes pulled again tomorrow. Im hoping I just fouled the plugs or something and not the O2 sensor... Any similar issues with just a full intake and no other mods? I know I should have done some exhuast mods too to free up both sides. Maybe Ill gut my 2nd cat too.... I hope I dont have to go back to stock Im too busy for this crap.

Well I rechecked everything again and this time let the car idle for 15 minutes. Then took a 60 mile drive mixed highway side roads and no CEL. Still backfire a tad here and there though.

i have same issue like u... hows the rpm acting??

RPMs are fine except when it stumbled or tried to die off idle in stop and go. This happened only rarely though 2-3 times in the week.

Those cels mean your running lean . . . not rich. My guess is a leak or MAF sensor issue.

I didnt type up all the definitions of each code but I know they were for both lean off idle and rich.

The CEL came back today after thinking I was good to go. I even checked my plugs so at this point I will swap out the ATP inlet. Ill be stock again and go from there.

On a side note while I had everything torn down I was not happy at all by the amount of oil I found all the way to the throttle body. I guess I will look into a catch can... If I keep this car.

If you're getting lots of oil in the inlet, you don't need a catch can there, you need to find the problem and fix the PCV system. You have way too much crankcase pressure. Problem could be in the PCV or leaking rings....

Thanks for the info... In a last ditch effort before I go back to the stock inlet. I took out the ATP and carefully checked all the fittings as I reinstalled. I started by making sure I could get a tclamp on the turbo side of the 2"-3" fitting. When I first put this inlet on I couldnt get it on to save my life. Let it idle for 15 min then took another 60+ mile spin no CEL for now.
