Installed ETS 3.25 TMIC! Impressions

Sorry no pics.. only impressions.

So I installed it today. I only drove home then to work... didn't feel any difference in performance... altho to be honest the city streets aren't really a good place to try out a new "performance" upgrade.... a buddy of mine said sunday is a dyno day somewhere and he wants me to go so I'll hopefully udpate this post with a dyno sheet.

Some observations:

The metal shroud around it vibrated like MAD when I gave it some gas... which was dissapointing - shows lack of R&D and/or lack of precision in manufacturing. The welds are pretty ghetto looking, but honestly I don't give a **** as long as they work.

To solve the shroud vibrating, I loosened it so I could get a bit of separation with the end tanks and then placed a few pieces of folded electrical tape in between and then tightening down the shroud again which seems to have solved this annoyance. I hope this ghetto fix lasts a while.

While I was at it, I swapped back to the OEM BPV since the HKS SSQV vIII was kinda bugging me on the way it sounded.

HKS's "chchchchchooo" vs. "shooooooooo" stock

I was expecting more of the "traditional" HKS BoV sound (ping and all)

So I had a question for yall: should I unplug the battery for about 15 mins to reset the ECU so that it "relearns" the stock BPV and new TMIC? or should it not really matter?

cheers!

I'm actually a little upset about your review because with the lack of SU fixing their TMIC front tabs, that really only leaves ETS. Kind of upsetting that the shroud rattles, and I thought that their newer models had cleaner welds? Did you by chance buy a used one? Maybe it was one of their older models.

In terms of performance, don't know where you live, but if it's like where I am, I'm seeing BAT's as low as 25 degrees! lol. And that's with the stock IC. Anyway, you won't feel the huge improvement of this upgrade unless you're in warm/hot weather. If you get a chance to go WOT you should see your boost up at least 1psi, maybe even 2psi. Anyway, keep us updated, and I'd LOVE to see pics!!

And yes, you should always reset your ECU after a power mod.

I purchased mine directly from ETS in december '09 since most of the online vendors were out of stock when I purchased it. So I seriously hope they sent me the "new" version. Do you know how to check which version it is?

I spend most of my time in Texas... so... yeah... warm weather aplenty.

altho right now we're at a cool 70 degrees. Maybe I'll see a bigger difference over stock during the summer (aka next month :p)

Summer next month, you bastard. lol. If you ordered it just a month ago you'll definitely get the improved one. This is definitely my next upgrade, but won't have the funds for another few months.

ACtually the new SU TMIC's are in. I have to go pick mine up still. The hot pipe angle is fixed and the tabs are reinforced. As far as impressions. I honestly don't think 1st impressions mean anything because your ECU needs a couple cycles to adjust. Not to mention winter temps. Your throttle response should be solid and you should be seeing at least 1psi more.

As far as rattles. My SU rattled a bit until I REALLY tightened it down. Worst comes to worst you can just take it off. I really don't think the TMIC looks any better with the shroud but I have it on there.

so.... can anyone answer my question? :D

You just made my night. Please post pics when you pick yours up.

Mark said that the new cores didn't come in like he wanted. I think he wanted the tabs changed somehow. But regardless the new IC hot pipes are reduced in size by 1/8 of an inch to fit properly with boot tubes and the angle is also changed like the stock IC. Should stop the damn kink issue. The tabs are the same (I think) but just re-inforced with welds.

I don't know hulligan. I wasn't aware that ETS had different versions. If it fits why does it matter??

I wouldn't say that they have "different versions" I just remember a while back when the SU IC came out with the really nice welds, I saw on several forums that ETS had started "cleaning" up their IC's welds to make it look as good as the SU one. Other than that, they remain the same.

Just giving you a hard time, but as fore mentioned, always, always, always reset the ECU when changing or adding power parts! And give it a little time for the full impression.
