Agreed I am speaking of the situation when you are maxing out the alternaotr and it is no longer enough to charge the battery. At that point the cap is dead weight becuase it will still attmept to charge. However at that point your lass concern is the minimal drain of a cap considering your alternator is likely dead!

head unit installation?

Ok I have a panasonic head unit I tried to install, I hooked up all the wires to the wiring harnest. The radio turns on but there is no sound what so ever. My friend said I might have a internal amp? and that I have to rewire my speaker to the deck? is this true? or could it just be the head unit?

If you have a protege then you don't have an amp unless the car is second hand and someon wired one in. My guess is you hooked it up wrong!

Thanks for all of the input. Would it hurt if i did get a cap now and install it with the proposed setup, then if i ever decide to get a more powerful amp for the fronts and move the 2x50 to the rears i will already have a cap wired inline to the amps?

I was looking at a phoenix gold cap on sounddomain.com. It seems to fit the specs that 1st_MP3 mentioned and it is a fairly reasonable price.

This stereo stuff is way to addicting, i was at first only going to get a new HU and a sub, but now it turned into a whole new system and about $800 more than anticipated.

They have a cure for that.

Find someone with an 80's Chrysler that has a stock stereo. Listen to that for 24 hours straight...then get back in your car.

Your ears will be more than happy to hear the sweet sounds of your stereo.

After treatment you must never get in someone's car with a nicer stereo or walk into a retail store that sells stereo equipment (unless its radio shack), or you will have to back into rehab.

Ever see that episode of jackass when they rent a rental car? I'm not sure if it was a chrysler but it was funny as hell. They rent the car, take it to a shop and spray paint it do all this stuff to it, then the enter it into a demolition derby and destroy it...then drive it back to the rental place and tell them that the car was like that.

They had a similar event in one of their old movies, CY2K, when they were in iceland and rented a car, rallied it, and lit off firework from inside the car and the car caught on fire. When they towed it to the rental place, they said it got struck by lightning,,, funny sh!t.
