Information for AEM F/IC

I just traded my SSAFC for the AEM Fuel and Ignition Controller, but I'm having a hard time getting it to work and can't seem to get any straight answers. I've browsed several threads on this unit, all of which are dead now. This is a shout out to anybody running the FIC.. I need some assistance!

With the box plugged in, the car cranks but will not start. If I use the bypass connector, it runs normally but of course I get massive fuel cut in boost. Now I found out today that our car has mag style cam/crank sensors instead of hall style like the diagram I used said we had. So I will be switching those wires around asap. My question is, what else do I have to do in order to make the car run safely with the base calibration? I have been reading the manuals and remember something about finding the crank advance before starting.. at least I think that is what it said. Any help is much appreciated.

Update.. I have the wiring (to my knowledge) all correctly hooked up now. I am still using the bypass until I figure out this crank advance I have to set. Does anybody have a clue what that magic number would be, or is it different on every car?

I think I'm pretty much the only guy with an MSP that still has one of these... but I refuse to give up easily. Now the car will not start with the jumper harness or the FIC, so I guess I ****** up the calibration somehow. Though I don't know wtf I could have done since I can only get the FIC to connect to 1 of the 3 programs that AEM has out. Today I realized I did not have the most up to date software and firmware for the series 1 FIC, so I updated to software version 3.06 and firmware version 3.81 so hopefully that fixes my problem.

alright alright im looking for my bookmarked threads...

i know people around here run this unit, im surprised no one has come in here to help.
then again though, it seems like theres never anyone in your threads. did you like piss everyone on this forum off somehow?

LOL possibly.. i try to help everybody i can, but maybe my threads are too boring.

edit: yea i found that thread, but unfortunately I don't think anybody that posted in there is still using the FIC.

It lives! I tweaked the settings a bit on the software and it finally starts and stays running. Though it threw a CEL and was idling rich as s***, so I'm assuming it's a p0172 system too rich. Atleast I have a base now.

Well I just got off the phone with tech support and realized how big of an idiot I am. I was trying to connect to AEMpro and AEMtuner, which are for the standalone EMS. I don't know why I couldn't figure that simple detail out after all the research I did. So it looks like the FIC software that I was actually able to connect to, is the only software I should be using. So I'm a little disappointed that I won't have all the awesome features I saw in AEMpro, but that certainly makes things simpler for me. I think standalone could be in my future now that I've witnessed the capabilities. But that is far down the road, if I would get a 2nd car and bump the MSP to weekend status. I'm going to fool with the software a bit more and see if I can make the car drivable before I have to go to work tomorrow.

LOL... STOP CLUTTERING MY THREAD! You know if I could have found somebody with an MSP that still uses this ****** thing I may have figured it out earlier. I knew it looked too good to be true, but it still has more features than the AFC so I'm happy.
