There's nothing worse than sitting through two hours of a horrible movie--what a waste of time and $$$. I don't go often due to my schedule, so when I do go, it'd be great to catch something good. Your recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

"The Big Lebowski" is a good movie, I've seen it a hundred times, and I might even be able to watch it a hundred more times. (smoke) (smoke) (smoke) (smoke)
If you aint seen it...

All depends on what genre you like, of course
Here are SOME of my favorites just off the top of my head

Action
Boondock Saints
Layer Cake
The Transporter 1&2
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (CG)

Action/Mystery
The Usual Suspects

Foreign:
Ichi The Killer
Seven Samurai Director's Cut
Battle Royale: Special edition
Hero

Comedy:
CB4
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
Half-Baked
Friday

Etc etc etc etc

I love seven samurai, great kurosawa flick, but everyone should be warned, it's 5 or 6 hours long.... maybe the directors cut is even longer.... (argh) And at the end.... ....the end is harsh. not in a good way. (RTM)

The Blues Brothers, covers all the basic food groups - religion, musical, car chases, action, adventure, drama, nazism, car chases, chicago, culinary arts. and i think i forgot the car chases.

Second that.

This movie also proves my theory that ANY move than features "Ride of the Valkyries" is a good one. Of course, the only other movies I can think of that feature Wagner's tune are Apocolypse Now and the Guy Ritchie short "Star" that he did for BMW. Both are excellent. :D

I heard exorcism of emily rose was good, but also heard some bad reviews about it as well.

Other than that, I haven't really been following what's in theaters :). If you can find one still showing Batman Begins, I'd go see that one. Great movie.

the exorcism of emily rose was good. at least i thought it was. its pretty creepy when you think about someone actually being possessed actually doing somem of the things she did, even though movies always embelish real events.

i heard the 40-yr-old virgin was hilarious

It would help if you layed down some parameters, i.e.: What genre, or movies you know you like.

You're right - I did not specify. I am mostly interested in latest releases, but certainly open to recommendations for "older" movies. I'm into Kung Fu, action/adventure, and drama. Some comedy is good too; it depends on the actors. For instance, you could have a good comedy with good material, but if the actor is not funny, it's just not comedy to me.

actually i just saw kung fu hustle and it was funny as hell but had some good kung fu in it...

if you like indie flicks, get:

"y tu mama tambien"

-it's very sexual (butthump)

I do like indie films - just not really into the "genre" you're suggesting. BTW, I saw that movie and it sucked. (blarf)
