Ok,
Right off the bat I know I am going to get a lot of the Auto X'ers pissed at me for even asking this, but hear me out.
This fall I'm going to be getting a new set of wheels. (Hopefully, Work Meister S1's from Auto RnD.) Since I will be moving back to 17's from my current 18's I'll of course be needing new tires. So, I've been checking out all of the options for what I can stretch across an 8" wheel.
There are a lot of tires out there that will do the job, but the one I keep coming back to and drolling over is the Advan A048.
Now, yes I am aware this is a competition tire that happens to be DOT approved. I also know that I won't expect much in the way of tread life out of it either. However, one must understand that my car is rarely driven. I walk to work and I also always have one of two other cars at my access for daily driving. I've owned my car for almost 15 months and it has only a little over 8K miles on it. Over 2K of those put on in one trip from VA to IL and back.
So, my thinking is I would like to have one of the grippiest (probably not a word) tires around for the times when I do drive my car. If it also happens to be one of the best looking tires, IMO, on the market, all the better.
I live in Hawaii now, so obviously inclement snowy and icey weather is not a problem. That leaves my major concern being wet weather traction. I have Googled for reviews and specs on this tire for the last hour and I have still not found any answer to my question.
Has anyone either directly or even vicariously had any experience with this tire since it became available in NA? I'm not planning to go testing the tires limits in wet weather, first of all I don't tend to drive the Speed in the rain, second when I do get caught in the rain I drive very conservatively.
Ok, you now know my bio. Question is are these tires truly road worthy enough that if I was out cruising and it started to pour I would still be able to drive along with the flow of traffic without having to worry about becoming another statistic? Of course also feel free to add any other thoughts you might have on these tires too.
Thanks,
Lang
