Importing iPhone 5s and 6s contacts (2011 non-NAV)

Although I'd frequently connect my iPhone 5s via bluetooth to my 2011 Touring non-NAV head unit I had never bothered to try importing my contacts. It just never seemed too important to me. A couple days ago I got an iPhone 6s (iOS 9.2) and decided I'd give this a try. The 6s pairs up but then during attempts to import contacts the Handsfree system says to send the contacts from the phone. Nothing happens and I cannot find any command in the phone to push them. If I attempt to enter a contact verbally the Handsfree system doesn't acknowledge that I've spoken a number and eventually times out.

Ok, so I think there are a couple of issues here. First, the Mazda Handsfree website doesn't even list the iPhone 6s as an option. It lists the 5s and 6 Plus, but not the 6s. That sucks yet I still have my 5s with an identical contact list, but again I can't find a way to push the contacts to the system.

So, two main questions:

How the hell do I get the contacts to import?

If I can get the system to import contacts from my 5s will the 6s be able to draw on this data when it is paired?

I have a '12, and that BT system is not user friendly at all.

I was able to upload my wife's phone book to our CX-9, but there was a limit to how many contacts you could upload--I don't remember what that # was. How many contacts do you have in your phone?

Also, note that once you upload your phone book, you cannot edit those entries.

I'm not sure what you mean by "draw on this data". This MY CX-9 has the older generation BT, so the contacts which are uploaded to the car's system then reside with the car. So, for example, if you have multiple phones that are saved to pair with the car, any one of those phones can utilize that phone book, as it is saved to the nav system.

I have a BMW with the newer generation BT system that pairs all contacts each and every time my phone is paired with the car, which is dependent upon the phone that is paired.

I have probably several hundred contacts both personal and business related. I did read somewhere that certain iterations of bluetooth would only allow about 40 contacts into the system phone book.

The intent is to load contact data from the iPhone 5s into the car system and have the 6s still function with it. Maybe I'm thick but I still don't see how to push the iPhone 5s data. The printed Mazda instructions explain how to pair a phone but not how to load the contacts.

It must be different from my '12, because when I toggle from a '12 GT nav and a '11 Touring non-nav, the Phone Book Transfer option disappears.

It's frustrating. Instructions in the owner's manual say to press selection button #7 on the non-NAV unit but the option is blank on the screen.

is there any value to adding contacts to the cars system over just using siri to "call __________"?
