I just bought a 06 mazda 3 hatch and it only came with one key, no remotes. I'm going to pick up some remotes on ebay but want to be sure I get the right one.
The part number is BN8P675RY but it doesn't come up.
This is all they show (and ebay vendors never know the right thing)

thats the right style keyfob shown....

its the same remote fob sytle used in the proteges and the mazda 3...

without verifying the part #, it looks to be correct. dont pay more than 15$ for it. (BTW, I have a remote for a mazda 3 if you want brand new never used... 10$ if you want it. I just have to verify the P/N)

My friend is a locksmith, he can get you that keyfob for cheap AND 100% Mazda brand. not some knockoff.

I bought a used one on ebay for my P5 and it worked fine, part numbers matched up fine. But everything on ebay lists the Protege part number, not the Mazda 3 part number.
The ones on ebay are about $25 for two shipped, but it could end up being the wrong part number.
I'll be calling the local dealer too.

From what I am finding, the most often used part number is actually:

KPU41846 - 41846

Can someone look on the back of theirs and verify?

The fobs come with a few numbers and look like this:
Model 41846
P/N: BN8P675RY
FcCC ID: KPU41846

Dealers are shifty.
I got different quotes from all the local dealers on the parts:
Dealer A, B, C
Key: A=37.50 B=$30 C=$27.72
Remote: A=$114.13 B=$55 C=$91.55

Labor to program the key - $85 (I bought the car with only one key)

I went ahead and bought two remotes (hope they work) off ebay for $23.

If you're buying remotes you could always get a flip remote. The full remote/key is about $75 shipped from www.onlinemazdaparts.com, cut to your car and ready to program. Obviously not cheaper than 2 remotes for $20 but still cheaper than buying a regular key/remote combo from the dealer.

While you're at it I would suggest getting a third key. If you have at least two programmed keys then you can program up to six more (total of eight) yourself, however if you only have one key then you have to have the dealer program them for you. So getting a third one now for $18 is a good idea.

The 2007 KEU is different from that of previous years so all '07 + remotes are different. They also cost about twice as much.

I'm really close to buying the switchblade key as well. I still have to pay them to program the keys though, which sucks.

Also, from the info i see, I need to have at least one currently working remote in order to program just the remotes?
I was not given any remotes. It seems like I should be able to program the remotes myself but maybe they made them more complex since my 2002 Protege5.

If anyone with a Mazda 3 2006 or 2005 can flip their keys over and send the numbers please do. I'd like to confirm the FCC number on the individual remote.

The flip key is definitely nice to have, if for no other reason than the dealer is really confused when they see it. You can have up to three remotes programmed, but there's no minimum of how many preprogrammed ones you need in order to program more. You just need to have all the ones you want to program at the same time as when you program it erases all previous ones from the system. As for the keys you can program up to eight and you must have at least two working ones in order to program it yourself, so yeah you'd need to have the dealer program them in.

I only have my flip key with me right now so I can't help you on the FCC numbers. I assume you want the numbers of the remote fob, and not the key right?

What can he get the key and remote for?

I believe the 2007 is very different from th 2006.
I know none of the other remotes are compatible from 2007 forward.
I would have to ask him. He is out of town and in Colorado right now, but he can get ANY key,key fob, specialty key fobs (flip out kinds and such) FROM the dealer for alot less than you would pay for it.

In case anyone ever searches the boards for this information, I bought the two remote key fob on ebay for $23 and made sure the description of code numbers on the back matched this:

"Visteon Model 41846
FCC ID: KPU41846
IC: 4238A-41846"

I had no remotes when I bought the car and just programmed in the two that I bought no problem. Again, I have a 2006 Mz3. All is well.
