So I was tired of looking for a dead pedal online and decided (since I bought the Mazdaspeed sill plates) to cut up the stock black plastic step plates that come with the car to make myself a dead pedal. Lucky for me, Mazda made each side 2" wide and 21" long where the dead pedal needs to be 4" wide and 9-10" long to cover my heel and toe. (both sides added together gives me 4" wide and you cut them in half you get and inch extra material in the middle, i love simple math) Anyways, I did this with no drilling into my carpet or any sheetmetal (held on by Velcro) and the only other things I used were a hacksaw (to cut it, duh) and sand paper (to smooth the edges. and a hot glue gun with glue but that doesn't count).
It looks fine on the front, there's a little shiny seam where the hot glue is, the back looks pretty crude but I couldn't find that thick, sticky Velcro I only found the thin stuff so I filled in the back with hot glue which gives it a very nice weight of about 1 pound versus like 1/8 of a pound but really, who's going to be looking at the back when it's black plastic on black carpet?
Enough of my jabbering, here are some shots of the place in question, the construction, masking, gluing, Velcro-ing, and installation.
(and best of all)
Enjoy!
I neglected to mention that I actually have enough material for one more if anybody wants, shoot me a PM for negotiable price (it's not going to be incredibly cheap since this one took me about 2 days to make and materials weren't that cheap but it will be cheaper than pretty much any other dead pedal out there) and estimated date of ready-ness.
