if you shift to reverse gear at speed of 60mph+,

is this possible on an automatic transmission?

why am I asking this?
the other day I almost did this on freeway,
the auto sport shifter doesn't have safty-release button that prevents you from shifting from D to R, as a previous 5-speed owner, i forgot I was driving an automatic and tried to shift from 4th to 5th, luckily I realized this halfway and stopped at N, i don't know if it would go into Reverse at 60mph if i went ahead,

anyone tried this? I hope our car's smart enough to prevent this.

im pretty sure you have to have the brake on to shift into reverse. when youre in park and you press the brake, you can hear the little blocker move under the shifter

LOL...the same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. I forgot I was driving an Auto and went to shift.(hand)

if theres something that could **** up something expensive like your car, dont "try" it, just leave it alone, ive learned that the hard way several times down the line

somebody wants to try this? :P i'm still curious but not curious enough to bet my transmission on it, lol
by the way does warranty cover this?

wait wait wait, i call :bs: on all you people who try to shift auto's, do you not notice the lack of that little third pedal?

I did this accidentally at 35mph on my dad's older Daytona TurboZ, when I was still learning how to drive...the drivetrain went bang and the engine stalled...pulled over (****ing my pants), but the car started up fine and drove like nothing was wrong...thank Christ...

Still, I'm with the others here...Don't try this at home!!!! YMMV.

It happened to me a few years ago.
The car was brand new and I was still trying to get used to the transmission (it was a manual)
Instead of shifting down from fifth gear to fourth gear, I shifted to Reverse .. the transmission just made a loud metallic screech...
That's when I realised something was wrong and I quickly changed to the correct gear.
It was a french car.. a Citroen... I still have very fond memories of it.. very very comfortable ride

Thats the thing. I went to hit the "invisible" clutch also at the same time...lol

on my old MTX car i usually shift and clutch at the same time,
so when I realized something's missing, the shifter is already at "N" almost going up to "R" besides I almost got used to the clutchless operation so my left foot is a little slow.

so we're still uncertain on this subject eh? somebody should go to a dealer and ... ;)

oh wait, how about driving my dads forester with my parents in it and SLAMMING the brake pedal because my left foot managed to grab the end of it when I tried to "shift"

My hand accidentally hit the stick last day and this shifted the tranny to N ..that automatic stick is so sensitive!!
The engine instantly revved hard before I shift back to D...

Sometimes when I drive an auto I'm trying to find the clutch and I'm like: "where the hell did it go?" that's when I realize it's an auto, it usually happens right when I'm about to start the car, I've never actually tried to shift an auto thinking it was a 5speed though  weird.....

please please please dont do this! a buddy of mine had a 5.0L auto stang..got pissed one day and slammed it into reverse at 55mph..it will go in..trust me..he also dropped his tranny

Blah, cheap ass AOD. I did it like 20 times with my old C4 equipped 5.0 stang. I'd slam it in reverse and floor it, it'd smoke the tires and spin the car around. It was FUN! :D

Of course it did seperate the roof from the t tops and actually tore the metal part of the motor mount. But the tranny and rear were fine. :p
