The 2 isn't popular enough (mainstream or underground) for it to become a highly sought after "cult" car if the 2nd generation doesn't come to US shores. The effect will be resale value going down the tubes (worse than it already is) and parts scarcity (possibility). So would you guys jump ship? It's 50% of the reason why I am trying to get into a Fit, the other 50% being lack of cargo space and too many rattles. And the fact that Mazda hasn't released barely a blip of news about the 2013s or a next gen is NOT encouraging. Plus Mazda's overall health in the US is poor at the moment. A Honda dealer got back to me with my 2 + $2000.00 for a 2013 FIT, which I think is the best possible deal that I can get.

I have both a Honda Fit and an M2. And, I'm not parting with the M2. It's so much more fun to drive.
I have no rattles, etc, etc. I'll probably run this car 15 years at a minimum. Parts availability is required by law for 7 years after discontinuation. What parts do you think you'll need?
Mazda isn't leaving the U.S. If anything, the Honda line up of cars really sucks in comparison. Ever drive a new Civic? The Fit is the only decent car in their line up.
You already have a nice car. Unless you really need more cargo space, you're just spending money needlessly.

Either way I will keep this car. If we do get next Gen it will add a greater support in US. If not it means I get to drive a rare car.
Thats how I feel, right now I dont see many M2's but when I do it's they always double take haha

My friend bought a 2010 HHR (one production run, now discontinued) and the car started having serious issues after a year and a half. The warranty covered everything, but it's still a nightmare for him to have to keep going back. He ended up trading for a 2012 Hyundai Elantra and the absolute best number he could get for the HHR was 8K. Dealers didn't want it and readily pointed to the demise of the vehicle as to why. No one wants my 2 at the moment DESPITE gas prices being around $4.00!
Another area of concern is the small dealership network. In the foreseeable future - I will either be living where I am now or a city that's 2 hours away. In both places, the closest Mazda dealership is 45 minutes away. Right now, there's a Honda dealership 10 minutes away. In the other city, there are 3 dealerships within a 15 minute drive. Convenience is huge! This became a reality for me I need to have a trim piece replaced on my 2, which I am booked for an appoint next weekend. I'm also having them go into the dash to fix a rattle.
Mazda posted a sales decrease from August 2011 - and this is counting the New CX-5, which was supposed to power a "sales resurgance". And I think they lost 1 billion dollars last year.

i test drove a sonic turbo, but i couldnt get my payments under 300 without going more than 5 years so i walked. It was a nice ride, but not for the money. Plus now I see more of them around and i'm glad i didn't get one. The 2 has REALLY grown on me and i'm having fun zipping around in it. If they discontinue it, i think it gives me more reason to hold onto it. I always hate them bringing out a next gen then i'm tempted to trade up.

coming from a family that loved hondas (but now loves mazda thanks to my 2 and 3) i didnt like any of them. (accord,civic,odyssey,crz) i LOVED the fit but only as a true commuter. other than that it was dull. but god tier on gas/space.

I love my 2 so much, and my wife loves driving my 2 so much (when I let her, heh), that not only will I absolutely be keeping mine, but there's a very good chance that we'll be trading her 2006 3 in for a 2013 2.
I have no worries about part scarcity. Mazda is legally obligated to honor the warranty, so we'll have powertrain parts for at least the next 6 years. And besides, there aren't that many unique parts for the North American version of the car. They've made plenty of this car for the rest of the world; just because they drop it for North America doesn't mean the global parts supply for it will dry up.
And as other have said, this is a Japanese car, built in Japan. We don't need that many spare parts.
Cars are never an investment, only a money pit. Some are bigger money pits than others. I don't care too much about resale value because I keep cars for at least 100,000 miles.

I almost got an E30 M3 instead of my wrx in '02, and now I'm regretting it as those have almost doubled in price in the last 10 years. And those supra turbos, those things are ridiculously priced since F&F came out.
i've personally seen a huge increase in the number of 2's that I've seen in SoCal. 1-2 popped up in my neighborhood and my girlfriends neighborhood after I've had mine for almost a year. I get people come up to me and admire the car and admit they've never seen it, but are in the market for a new smaller fuel efficient car. Next thing I know, they're rolling in a 2. On the freeways I've seen my share and it's always someone I haven't seen previously.
I don't think I'd worry too much about it. If anything I'd just go back to the Mazda dealer a couple years down the line and trade for another Mazda or something. But for now I plan to keep it.

Interestingly enough, I was in Los Angeles all last week and didn't see a single 2 on the road. I saw a good half-dozen Skyactiv Mazda 3's though.

I plan on keeping it for as long as I can. One of my other cars is a 92 festiva and i always thought it would have been so cool to be the original owner of a 20 year old car.
