If the MSPs can get their ECUs flashed...

whatever you dyno now with the p5's ecu, you'll dyno an extra 3whp with the mp3 ecu... however, you'll only see that with high octane. running 87 produces knock because of the advance timing, i believe.

I have never heard anyone with knock from running even 89 octane fuel. I don't know anyone that has run 87 though.

so if i did it i could run 89 and then if i wanted more power or more efficient power, run 91 or 93? would my gas milage stay the same or go up/down?

It was my MP3...It was their (Flyin' Protege's) Protege 5.

Basically it is not worth the pain/hassle/money to get a regular Protege/5 ECU reflashed/replaced with an MP3 ECU.

You will not see a noticeable gain with it.

My MP3, with their P5 ECU made three less horsepower and two more torque.

Their Protege 5 with turbo and my MP3 ECU made about five more horsepower and about six more torque. So it is hard to say what made the bigger difference in power. I don't think the ECU made all of the difference. The presence of the turbo probably made some of the difference.

Here are the links to the dyno's:

And...

MP3 with Pro 5 ECU.

MP3's had the different ECU, a slightly different intake manifold from what i remember, and a Racing beat axle back...FM claimed that the axle back must have been decent, and may have made up the extra 7hp...

The MP3's ecu still has most of the restrictiveness of the stock FS-DE's ECU...ridiculously rich at WOT, and completely all powerful at ridding any mixed signals from EVERY "chip", and most programmable piggy-backs...
