I'm not in the market to buy a car but I just want to test drive the new cars out there... especially the mazda 3

anyways what would I go tell the dealer if I want to do that? do I just act that I want to trade in my car or just tell them up front I want to test drive....

i don't want to fill in any paper work thought.....

how would I go about doing this?

Just pretend your interested. But don't let them run any credit reports or commit to anything.

And dress nicely. :D

how can i not let them run any credit checks? don't I have to fill out something before test drive?

no, ive done test drives even without showing my liscence.

i think i'll test drive one the next time i get an oil change

I never do. Drove a nice RSX type S about a month ago and all they asked you for is a copy of my DL, and a phone #. (Just give them a fake phone #). :D

just act like you are in the market for a car. they will just ask for your liscense and they make a copy of it and then you are off.

It'll be helpful as well to show your interest by demonstrating at least some basic knowledge of the car. I.E., "I heard it has xxx hp". Don't be like "I want to get the xx trim model with xx options and xx paint and xx money. Got one here?" I've gotten the best results by showing the idiot that you are interested in it and let HIM/HER feel useful by answering detailed questions you already know the answer to ;-).

the way i test drove a protege for the first time, I said, "I really like this car, but I'm not ready to buy for another month, I'm still getting together some money." Ten minutes later I was driving one. I think that's what I'll do for the mazda3.

Mazda dealers are cool. The 1st time I test drove the RX-8, I just told them point blank that I just wanted to drive it, I wasn't interested in buying. And that was it. Took it out for 30 minutes :)

Once you give them your driver's license, that's where they get the credit check. All they have to see is that you have a valid driver's license. There is no reason for them to have a copy of it.

I've found that this works the best. Go to the dealer & tell them you are interested in ______ & you're going to pay cash, but you're probably not going to buy for another month. That avoids them trying to ask you about credit (some will still try to push it on you  ) & it lets them know you are serious (or at least that's what they think).

It depends on the salesman, Ive been shopping around for cars, I wanted to take a Dodge SRT4 for a spin, but the salesman was way too pushy and I knew as soon as we got back he'd have me in his office, so what I usually say is "I have to speak with my insurance agent, see how much they're going to screw me out of before I can make any commitment to you" you may need to say that about 5 times depending on the salesman.

Mazda dealerships are usually pretty relaxed though, you should be able to take one for a spin, but if you ever feel pressure, use the insurance excuse to get out of there

Uh wrong. They CAN NOT run your credit without your signature on a credit app. If they do they are breaking the law. They make a copy of your license for insurance reasons. If they send a non-licensed driver out for a test drive, they are liable if anything happens.

tttP5: If you really want to test drive just act like you are interested in the car, but not too interested. Get them to ask you if you want to test drive it. If you just go in and say "I wanna test drive a XXX", then they are gonna know you are full of s*** and are wasting their time.

I know that that is illegal, but there are dealers that do. All you have to do is confirm with your credit bureau as to who did a check last. Most dealers know that a majority of the people buying cars will not know anything about their own credit ratings and therefore will not check afterwards.

I know that when I bought my car that they would do a credit check before I bought. I wasn't worried about it though as I found out what my score was before hand. When the deal was done, sure enough there was a piece of paper to sign indicating that I had to authorized that they did a credit check.

It is illegal, but once you give them your driver's license, you're giving them the authorization to do so. It does have your signature on it. Just a thought.

If you have to tell them you're in the market to buy a new car, do so...but make sure you follow with. . .

"I am not buying a car today and I am not signing anything, but if I like what I see, I'll be back next weekend to talk numbers."

That usually gets them to stop haggling you, but they know (or think) a little reinforcement will get you back in the next weekend if you have a positive experience.

I'd love to try out a new WRX but there's only one subaru dealership in our city and they think they're selling frickin ferraris.

"Well, i can't let you drive it but you can look at it, teehee!" F__kin subaru B$tch
