Okay so I went and saw talladega nights and when I got out I started racing around and having fun. Next thing I know... whenever I come to a stop the engine sounds like its about to conk out, it doesnt conk out but it drops rpms and then goes back up then drops again and goes back up and then drops just a tad and then goes back up and then its okay. Anyone have any idea what the FU*K is going on???

Sounds like a cracked vac. line, or an ic pipe that is loose. Its time to grow up and not let movies influence you. You'll either hurt yourself, or worse yet hurt someone else. I can't preach too much because I do stupid things on my bike, but I drive sensible in my car.

youve got the dreaded Mazda AIDS. When you think youre a hot rodder and you drive hard the disease manifests itself. I know cuz mine does the same thing. Has been for a long time. Granted i have a slow P5 so me trying to go fast is alot more of my imagination. But mine has done the idle drop for bout a year and a half. Havent figured it out yet. Hasnt broken anything, and the stealership cant figure it out either. If it stalls or gives you a cel. tell me so i can take a look at my stupid car.

What a crappy movie. Is it just me or did everyone in the theatre laugh just because it was will farrell though it was nothing new from him at all.

FWIW, mine does that same kinda thing if its real hot and i've been driving kinda hard, even though my vacuum usually reads right on my gauge. Its never actually stalled, however, just dips. Dunno why.

Same problem...replaced spark plugs with one step colder iridiums and now the idle is always pretty constant. Think about that if its been awhile since theyve been replaced or if there are no leaks and you run out of ideas as to why you are having the problem. I couldnt figure it out either and was looking for leaks like crazy and after doing many searches i figured id give it a shot and it worked out for the best!

Yes it totally sucked and I only laughed at the end during the out-takes and the part where Farrell said that Highlander won the academy award for best movie ever!

thats funny, i was just about to make a new post reguarding idle problems because i have it too- the thing with mine though is that it is totally random when it does it.... when i start the car it idles pretty high- sometimes at like 1200 rpms. the dip in rpms also happens to me when i am stopped at stop lights.... it actually started happening when i put my front mm on but i dont think that should have anything to do with it and it is just a coincidence....

My car when its completely cold (IE hasnt been started all day) jumps RPMs to almost 2k then idles fine after 1 - 2 secs. as far as dipping in RPMs... you usually get that when you stop at stoplights when you release boost too quick... (IE boosting in 3rd then push in the clutch and stop) releasing boost to quickly out of gear or with the clutch engaged causes it to run too rich and possibly stall... Ive had that issue since I bought my car.

 Yeah - mine does this randomly each week. I'm going to look into this when I swap in my new vac lines and intake mani: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94788&page=18&highlight=clean+egr

Run some seafoam through it, and clean your egr, it should help some. My MSP did it, but I did what I just wrote above and it was much better.

I know I was trying to tell speed_addict whats normal but after rereading his post I think he meant constantly running at 1200rpm idle. I apologize if this is the case

Cams? No, I dont think so, I think it's the apex seals on the rotors that went out. Also, the special NOS injected flywheel mazda put in these cars can give you problems if you rev it too low... s***, he should not be running at all... HEHEHE... ok, jokes aside I would say to clean your egr... it cant hurt. There is a good how to in the "how to" section (go figure). It isnst too hard, actually it isnt hard at all....just remove the cold intercooler pipe, intake, battery and battery base, and you have a direct shot at the 2 bolts holding the EGR.
