Yesterday I went over to the Arlington Auto Mall and test drove a WRX. The acelleration of that thing was pretty damn awesome!! I remember looking down at the speedo, and being in 3rd gear at 80 MPH really fast!

I don't know about Linux but wiht the MP3s tranny problems I sure as hell am.

Check some of the "scoobie" forums, they have some problems with the standard tranny. www.i-club.com/

The factory tranny is fine on the WRX, you have to remember that it's a different car and that you can't go dropping the clutch all the time. My friend Subywan's tranny on his WRX Wagon is perfectly fine. The tranny problem you speak of is pretty much common on all 4WD compact cars or at least to my knowledge it is common.

yeah...it's somewhat of a problem on awd cars...because...from my understanding since the engine has to put power to all 4 wheels the engine and tranny is too weak to be pushing at low rpms...so you can think of it as starting in 2 every time...at least that's how the tranny feels and this can cause premature break down of the tranny etc..etc...

that's at least what i read from one site...

I drove the WRX first, then the Pro, then the WRX again. I liked driving the scoobie a lot, but I liked riding in the Pro more.

I figured that since I wouldnt really be able to drive the WRX all the time, Id mostly just be riding.

What really cast the final vote though, was when I looked at insurance. My driving record isnt great, but almost 3X as much was out of hand.

I test drove one also last year when they first came out. the sell person told me to "take it easy". I scare the crap out of him! The car is a lot of fun!
My friend ran 14.3 sec. stock and now he runs 13.2 sec. with less than $1000 in mods (exhaust and boost controller wow!!)

I have not driven the WRX, but a guy I work with who now drives a tweaked CRX, and does some in-formal slalomn racing, drove both the WRX, and recently my P5. I asked for his comparison of the 2 cars. He said flat out speed the WRX was probably faster, but it is a bigger, heavier car. As far as suspension, cornering, he thought that the P5 probably had the edge, and he really like the interior layout of the P5, and overall looks.

2 cents.

Stock for stock the P5 looks better and probably does have a little bit higher slalom speed. But throw in about $1000 dollars in mods and the better car really shines. Oh yeah, who cares about cornering speeds anyway.

My $.02

My friend has a WRX. AEM CAI, up pipe, down pipe, tanabe exhaust, Blitz boost controller, and turboXS BOV with a stock turbo. No problems with the tranny and he drives the hell out of the car.

1/4 mile times are a consistent 13.0 sec at 103.

All I have to say is that there is something really cool about an all-wheel burnout.

If he keeps putting money into it, maybe he can come close to my FZ1. Oh yeah, that's not fair - the FZ1 has 2 wheels. (The devil made me post that - I promise I will not do it again ;]

Ha!

If he keeps putting money into it, maybe he can come close to my FZ1.

I think he's about done for now.

He wants a turbo upgrade but doesn't want to throw the warranty out the window just yet.

I guess he could kepp putting money in it if he wanted to. He's 20, makes about $35K a year and lives at home w/ his mom and dad and they charge him rent or anything!

Bastard

Oh well. Guess I'm just jealous.

Like my wise east indian friend once said, "if you don't like your situation, just wait, because everything passes". Aummmm. But its true. At some point living with his parents is going to get in the way of dating, once he starts living on his own, even at that salary, he will not have the money to throw around. So just wait. Are we off the subject? Yeah, but I gues its OK.

I'm actually very close to buying a WRX... When i bought my MP3 I really wanted a WRX but couldn't afford it at the time, so the MP3 was my second choice (hell of a second choice if you ask me!) So now I'm gonna be selling my baby and making the jump to turbo AWD.... In the mean time, i'm gonna keep driving my girl like I stole her!

jayv212,

I too was very close to buying a WRX. Subaru's financing sucked for me. So I went for the MP5 for 0 down, 0 interest, cash back, and 6 months differred payment. Couldn't beat that sweetheart deal. Now the WRX J-spec blah-blah is coming out in the fall with supposedly an added 30 horse. (All it has is a bigger intercooler). That should deflate the value of the present WRXs. Maybe by the time these Rexs are depreciated I can afford a used one to rally in. :)
