I stumbled upon something!

I am quite sure they aren't the same as the Ford ones. They have a built in igniter. There is power, ground, and a logic signal going to the "coil" to make them fire.

Well there are several other models, including the new COP for the 3 Valve Engine. If anyone can check the resistance on the stock coils, something may work.

Nice find! Before I go onto thinking out loud, I want to say that you guys have gutts for playing with a brand new car.

So your now on the stock plugs with all those mods. Correct? If so, then the springs in the coils should be ok, unless it's a deffect or it somehow got damaged when you removed them. I say it's a deffect.

spikes about 2psi more than im running. I turned down to 18psi and it spikes 20psi. I like it like that. Big torque spike and then holds good boost.

Why does it spike? Shouldn't it hold without a spike if you have the forged dv? (Unless you don't have the DV yet.)

Just thinking out loud....(scratch)

My experience with COP ( Coil On Plugs ) quality is hit or miss on them. This is the first time ive seen the contact problem though. Im wondering if these are the same used on the Ford 4.6 and 5.4. Ill check when i get home. If they are, we can run better aftermarket coils :)

Mazda specs should be similar to these:

Primary Resistance: 0. .660 ohms
Coil Internal Construction: Epoxy
Turns Ratio: 61:1
Secondary Resistance: 6.1K ohms

they look different than the ones I had on my 4.6PI engine.

I pulled apart each coil and stretched the spring just a little. Enough to where it took a little bit of effort to get it back together. Put it all back together and went for a drive. TO MY SUPRISE IT DIDNT SPUTTER!!!!!

I did this last night except I stretched the center of the spring almost 2 inches
The center of the spring is thicker than the ends

I only tried to reproduce my WOT 2nd to 3rd gear studder this morning on the way to work >>>>> it didn't studder!!!!!!!

sweet Jesus!
thanks dude....If this studder stays G_O_N_E and was really eliminated from this small but meaningful mod...I owe you big time

Oh yeah, not even once. Trust me i have been wary and have made atleast 20 wot passes through 2 3 4 5th. s*** is crazy mobbing.

Stumbled? Don't denigrate the accomplishment man. This was the result of a lot of methodical, hard work. You didn't "stumble" onto anything. Great job!

Hope it isn't icey or snowy tonight. I want to give this a try.

+1 driver you da man!

my car was sputtering before the cp-e but stopped once i installed the ems. i might still do this though incase it was an issue cus im tellin u it was pretty bad. but if ur car is pullin any like mine i def know how u feel with getting that sputter gone. car flies now and im only runnin 15psi normally and 17psi when testing pulls or racing. once i get my intercooler ill up the boost tho, cant wait. anyone know some decent tires that fit this, not much seems to fit and im now screeching in third.

if its cool out turn the boost up to like 18psi and see if it does it. I bet it does. then try this and see if it fixes it.

I will up the boost a little this Weekend to see if I get the stutter. If I do, I will try this to see if it fixes the issue. Before at 19PSI I would stutter like crazy but I thought it was a Fuel issue. Maybe its this.

ill try it out next week cus i gotta go down to tampa this weekend to visit some people and wont have a laptop. but ill tell u, that sputter used to kill me and just havnt seen it since the cp-e.

keep in mind i have not done this yet or even looked at the internals of the coils, but just out of curiosity, is there an issue with keeping these springs consistent once stretched? do you have to make sure that they are the exact same length for all 4? it almost seems reckless to just go in there and start pulling springs. especially considering the turn ratio that is in the specs? if you stretch it doesn't that change that turn ratio?
