I need Serious Opinions Only Please!

as to the coment of the first protege to break 235, that honor belongs to Spoolin
what was it that he ran? like 260whp on stock internals with race gas and a standalone on his MP3

if you go for any aftermarket turbo kit you are basically going to get 170whp right out of the box, with alittle more cash you can have alot more power, the Flyin protege kit makes 170 whp at 7psi, the mazdaspeed makes 170 crank hp at 7psi

I say turbo the LX

i agree turbo the LX. you will lose alot in the trade in and get a slower car. thats comparing a stock msp to a turbo lx.

My advise would be to use the money for the turbo to pay off/down your current car. Putting a turbo on an LX is way down on the list of upgrades.

If you need a turbo, trade in the LX and get a SRT-4 with a factory warranty. It comes with upgraded brakes, tires, suspension ect. that were made for the increased performance of a turbo vehicle.

BTW the SRT-4 beats the MINI-S in the slalom.

You aren't going to get much for that Protege in trade- you'd be lucky to get the $13k you owned if it was an MSP.

Take the money you would have used to turbo and pay down your car faster. Then, when you get it down to a reasonable level, sell the car privately instead of trading it in, you'll get a good deal more in a private sale than a dealer trade. Keep the car clean, don't mod it do all the maintenance (save records) so you get top dollar.

Then, once you can get out of the Protege without going upside down again, you're ready to buy something even better than you could have before because you aren't tacking on negative equity.

Think of it this way- an SRT-4 is about $21k. If you're upside down $4k, that makes it $25k. If you weren't upside down on the Protege, you could get a nicely equipped WRX for your $25k, or lots of other cool cars. Even in the case of the MSP, if you can get it for $17k, you could have had an SRT-4 had you not been upside down.

Tough it out with what you've got for now, enjoy the benefits later. Hard to do, but its silly not to.

buy an srt-4

Dont get me wrong, I like the srt-4 but you are gonna have a lot more "simple" problems with it because its a neon. Anyone who has ever had one knows. They simply fall apart.
