I was backing up today and it felt like my front right tire was about to come off or something. It feels like it wobbles. Only when I back up though. Its been doing that for awile. But my lugs are tight. Then I noticed when I get up to about 70mph the steering wheel shakes. I just had them balanced 3 weeks ago. I don't know what the problem is.:'( :(

This may be a real reach...but it could be a bad wheel bearing...or something like that...its odd that it only does this when you back up though....

try this just to make sure that everthing is solid. Jack up the car, take ahold of your wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and try to rock the tire/wheel in and out....it shouldn't. If it will, as in feels loose, there is a problem with either your suspension or the wheel bearings. either way, I would get it into a shop for someone to take a good look at it...you certainly don't want to experience a failure while on the highway or in the middle of nowhere.

exactly Nuke,

I think its a wheel bearing issue? Kinda like a bent rim to but these wont really bend?

:D

how about this, how were the wheels balanced? static or dynamic? generally a static balance will show vibrations at speeds over 60 or so.
I know its not his problem , but I thought I would just throw that out there!:D

I'm having the same problem in mine, I thought it was just the tires, so I had a new set put on a few weeks ago. Still the same problem, Anything over about sixty or 70 vibrates the wheel and drives me nuts. The wheels were balanced with weights on the inside and outside of the rim, that is a dynamic balance correct?

If it's not a tire balance issue, then it sounds like a waranty fix to me.

cmon ppl u gotta listen to me... alignment....

i had the same problem about 2-3 times already... when your cars alignment gets thrown off.. it isnt aligned!! its that simple... when something isnt setup right.. it wont work properly... in this case.. if your wheels/tires arent perfectly aligned, they will kinda shake the car a little... it just makes sense... if they arent moving in perfect unison, something is gonna be thrown off... and its not a big enough deal or big enough "gap" for it to cause much of a problem at avg speeds... but upwards of 65-70 or even 80 mph it causes problems... also, notice that as you speed up past the "problem area" it goes away... ex... your wheel starst shaking at about 65 mph... you keep accelerating.. once you get to about 75/80 mph it goes away and your cool again... then as you slow down to exit the freeway... it rattles from 75 on down through 65 and then is ok again..

just go pay 40-60 bucks for an alignment and it will go away...

peace

whoa... strange... how long ago was the alignment? have you been peeling out, getting wheel hop, skidding to a stop, e-braking, etc etc?? have you hit a curb or speed bump to fast or anything like that?? basically... r u sure that the alignment is still accurate, or has it possibly been thrown out or whack?? and if not... go ahead and take it to a dealership... they SHOULD look at it for you for free... however... should for mazda usually means wont... but give it a shot anyway

good luck

You broke your mp3, how dare you.

just kiddin man.. same exact thing happened to my boyfriend, the side of the car slammed into the pavement when the control arm broke. it wasn't doing the shaking thing though

Actually the shaking at speed can also be caused by the belts in the tires separating. If they have been flat spoted this can cause the stering wheel to shake also. Alignment is not the problem. As for the wabling sensation the only advise I can give you is thats somthin's broke. Good luck
