im thinking of rebuilding my engine instead of buying another one...
my mechanic said that i need a new oil pump, the crank, piston rods, and the gasket kit...i add up the parts and im going to spend about 650 to 800 usd on those parts....i know i can find an engine about that same price but i dont want to risk it and buy an engine that i don't know nothing about.....
now i have two qustions

1.) how much should i be expecting to pay for labor?
(rebuild the engine)

2.) is there anything i might also need to replace while my engine is out?

dont kill yourself... ooh sorry.

Umm really dont know cost wise. Best bet would be to start shopping places and take it from there. But I am sure the much wiser people will chime in(dance)

go ahead and repalce the alt and starter.....it would be hell if after a month after you get it back together those go

I highly doubt u will need to buy a crank because the stock one is forged. Just to pull the motor and put it back in is going to cost about $700. No to take it apart I'm not sure. But you will need more than what you mentioned. For example: bearings, belts, water pump, plugs, wires, oil, filter, etc. You get the idea.

tanks for the fast reply to all of you...

i found a mazdaspeed protege engine would this fit right in in the p5?

ok i just asked my friend search button if the 03 mazdaspeed protege will fit my 02 p5 and he said yes!!......

the only thing i couldn't find if i need to do any special modifications so i can fit the engine in or i can just bolt in and plugged in and ill be good?

any help will be appreciated...

i know is a waste of money to swap the msp engine to a p5...but i might as well do it since i f&%$ed up my p5 engine!!...

it is the same engine as what you have now, but with the turbo. So no, nothing special needed, unless you are adding the turbo system

Go with a KL V6. If you take one from a good running car, you can do it for fairly cheap. The wiring is borderline ridiculous as I'm finding out. It is doable. I bought another car to drive, and a V6 donor car for the price of a used FSDE.

EDIT: I forgot to mention some additional requirements. Heated garage big enough for two cars, lots of tools, lots of spare time, and lots of help from friends. I wouldn't recommend doing it though if you aren't very experienced with wrenching, there is a lot of PITA stuff to do. Whatever you decide, good luck. Thankfully there's a good community here to help.

Fitting is the least of the trouble. It'll fit right in with the right intake manifold, and transmission bellhousing. However, none of the wiring is the same, the emission controls are completely different, and the rad is different. I haven't gotten far enough with mine to know what else, but this swap is not for the faint of heart.

im not doing the swap my self i dont have the tools or the knowledge to do the swap my self instead im paying a mechanic to do the labor part.....

how much do you think i have to pay for labor, since i see you doing this same swap also??

also for extra parts that i might also need other than the engine?

do you think i can do it with around 2000 usd (dont know how much is in canadian dollars)

(help before i decide to replace my motor with the same slow mp5 motor)

With all the wiring work that will need done, i would think you'll be over $2000 when all is said and done plus trans needed to mate to the motor

What ECU to use?

i found this motor for sale its a klze for $850 usd
it comes with

Complete Motor -
Block and Head Distributor
Alternator Power Steering Pump
A/C Compressor
Exhaust Manifold
Intake Manifold

is there anything else i need to add to the list?

Complete wiring harness, distributor and VAF from KLDE, ECU (different depending on disty and vaf setup). Also, KL Bellhousing, Clutch/flywheel, some powersteering/Airconditioning parts. You're going to have to make hybrid side engine mounts (easy to do with the mounts from both cars). Wiring wise you'll need a tachometer signal converter, and someone who really really knows their stuff with automotive wiring. I'd say you're pretty much going to have to go with an aftermarket water temperature gauge in place of the stock one as well. It's not as simple as it sounds... there is more that I'm forgetting I think.
