I've got a Yakima rack for my bikes, I actually haven't put it on my mp3 yet, but it worked great on my 240...let me know if you plan on getting one and I can get you a deal. You can go to Yakima.com and see what parts you would need to order.

yea i hate puting my board though the trunk pass, and next month my girl, her best friend and my best friend are going snowboarding, and theres no way that i can get 4 boards though that pass.

I have had a yakima rack with the fairing that holds a bike and up to 4 boards. fit was excellent and quality is top notch. It is the only rack I would buy. It looks great too!

i just got home from vt we got a lot of snow. my car handle excellent in the snow. im so pissed how dirty my car got. having the rear seat down really makes the car louder. my parents have a thule rack already and it cost like 450$, since theirs mounts on the roof rack bars i need different feet for our mp3's and to get the feet to mount it on the mp3 are 180$ so im just gonna keep putting it through the back for now. althought our car would look bad ass with a roof rack and a visor and snow tires.

I've sold every type of roof rack for a car-Thule, Saris, etc. And even though they do work, they WILL scratch the s*** out of the top of the car. Especially if a little piece of metal gets under one of the mounting feet, it will rust and ruin the clear coat. I advise anyone who has any sort of respect for the car to never use a roof rack. Make someone else drive.

I don't see how a properly installed roof rack from Yakima (can't comment on others) with Q towers would make my car rust. The only thing touching the top of my roof is four soft rubber pads. And trust me, if mounted correctly, nothing is getting under those pads unless I take them off. So bike and board on! formerly gillick in above post!

I agree with the previous post. A properly installed Yakima make it pretty much impossible to hurt the paint, although the fairing (even though it looks real cool) is what could possibly hurt (since its not 'strapped down' to the car at all.
Good Luck :D

The new yakima fairing has several small feet that touch the roof, but I used the supplied clear stickers that go under these feet. The fairing feet touch the sticker. It is a sweet setup. The Big powderhound ski rack from Yakima will fit 4 boards. Just came back from wisconsin with 3 on top.

Yeah, I've got one of those fairings. Keep your eye on the little pads they give you, they tend to come off after a while. once they do, your roof could get into trouble.
I'm just going to go the no fairing route. just easier and safer.
:)

hey guys, i used to work for an accessory shop, and im curious how exactly these racks are mounted. the only ways i knew of installing racks are screwing directly into the roof, or double backed tape(crap). screwing into our thin roofs sounds crazy, and double backed tape ruins paint. also they worp the metal on your roof, any weight or wind drag will pull/push and worp the metal on the roof.

I will try to explain how the Yakima rack attaches, but if you have seen one then you know it is sort of hard to explain. Two thingy's attach to bars which are held down by other thingys.......................................... better yet go to yakima.com and look at their illustrations. Long story short, no holes are drilled, no tape is used, and they pretty much have to steal your car to get the rack. Sorry about the explanation!

Old post, but I'm new here and thought I'd share my setup with ya'll. I recently bought and installed a roof rack called, Xport. It is compatible with Thule components. I purchased the 2001 model (may have been a clearance) instead of the 2002 model and paid a total of around US$200 +/- 40. That's including shipping. No sales tax since I did it by mail order.

Came with lockable roof rack, non-locking fork spindle clamps, and ferring.

Initial assembly was a pain in the neck. Didn't have much time to spend a few hours messing with the measurements/alignment so took a week before I was able to get it all set up right. Once assembled to your preference it is a cinch to remove off your roof. Unhook the 4 pt. latch and remove. Huge rubber pads are the only thing next to the strip of rubber ferring linning to make contact with your car's roof.

Not as easy as throwing it in the back of a hatchback, but this looks better and doesn't get in the way like a trunk rack would. I would make sure the roof spots are squeaky clean before placing the rubber pads on top of the car though.

Solid rack and cheap, but I don't attempt any serious turns for fear I would rip the bike right off the roof rack. Probably very unlikely, but MP3s can carve pretty mean curves on the road without much effort. :D
