Ok...so I'm looking at trading in my 03 MSP for either one of two cars...

1. 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero

OR

2. 2004 RX-8

Now...I already know what my heart and soul wants...and their even working on convincing the brain too...I'm gonna make a move on the car Monday I think, given that it is one of the only six speeds there, and its this amazing yellow (wow)

You only live once...and when you look at life that way...Do you really want to spend your time behind a Saab when you have a choice...Go RX-8 and enjoy life! (rockon)(drive)

SAAB = Suxs At Almost Becoming

SAAB = Casual every day transport for the Sweedish masses. Although the "Aero" version is in the above the average SAAB range its still nothing special. Nothing to be proud of. Like a tin-box Toyota, they suit the practical man who wants A-B with nothing to remind him of the hours, days, weeks he spends in a car every year.

The RX-8 is towards the opposite end of the scale. Its style is "different" its flair is obvious & its character is to be found under the bonnet. There is something about that "Character" of a rotary engine that sticks with you. Combine that with the flair of the suicide doors, the compact yet spacious 4-seater interior & its amazing handling all give you a sense of pride that makes you turn back to look at your pride-&-joy every time you park it. Makes others stare with envy or curiosity at this left-of-centre Mazda & makes you shake your head with disbelief at why no other manufacturer offers suicide doors once you find out for yourself just how practical they are.

The razor sharp handling, the overwhelming brakes & the more than adequate performance give you a sense of security that you simply dont & wont get with any other car for the money you can spend on the RX-8

Its personality means its high maintenance, but like a good women (even higher maintenance) you get so much more back for what you put in.

Wonder what happened? RX-8 FTW! Note that with the RX-8 people will stop and stare, ask questions in parking lots and gas stations, take pictures of you driving, and leave you with a big smile on your face every time you drive. If any of that interests you than go for the RX-8. Or....drive a SAAB, which is not a terrible vehicle, but simply not even close to an 8.

DMRH, you said it best. Although Saturn has the same smaller rear "suicide" style doors as well. Albeit less room and not as nice of an interior as the 8. Mazda's version is called "Freestyle". I don't find it high maintenance at all, just gulps gas like almost any V6 & V8 would.
