MS3
Alright quick back story, I've been driving a protege5 for a while now. The car is great, and had everything I could need except one thing.. speed. I became quite obsessed with the new MS3's recently and it eroded my soul so I had to trade in the P5.

So far I am digging the MS3 very much. Lots of refinement, and the torque is great. I haven't really been pushing it too hard as I'm still in the "break in" period, but I can't resist. I know there's many debates about that. I must say the suspension is really fantastic, and just the whole car feels really smooth even with the insane amount of power it has. Its a good day, but I'm exhausted after spending 3 1/2 hours at the dealer, and waking up really early to put my car back to near stock before trade in. I got a pretty decent deal I think.

I look forward to becoming more active in this community again, its the best forum there is.

Did they give you decent trade on your P5? I've kind of got it the back of my head that I may make the leap soon too.

Ok, I still haven't gone to sleep. I went outside to unlock my trip computer, when I thought "I should go for a short drive to see how it in action". I ended up going for 30 mins, but I found some really kick ass back roads I didn't know were around here. I'm going back when its daytime (too risky with deer at night) and when my car is broken in to have some fun.

First day, I added almost a 100 miles on it. I'm hoping to reach a 1,000 soon so I won't have any fear of the break in. I feel like my car is gaining power with ever mile, but its probably just me getting better at the shifter... who knows. All I know is this car is a blast.

I'm not sure if it was decent because all trade ins are rip offs, but I feel like for a trade in I did alright. My car was a 2002, with lots of little cosmetic damage all around, and 61,000 miles. They offered me $5300 at first (the sales man had me lie before hand and say I owed 5k on it so they would bump up the trade value more). I said that wasn't enough and that I would just sell it myself and come back next month. So after much deliberation they offered me $6300.

My goal was really $7000, but I'm not sure thats very realistic considering the cosmic wear and tear to my car. I might of held out, but the car was being discounted $1,300 so I went for it.

How do you think I faired? Oh, BTW, part of the reason why I wanted to trade now was so I could avoid spending lots of money on my 60k maintenance since I knew I wanted the MP3.

Hmm... the tail light looks different than mine. ^_^a

Yes, personally I prefer the sport tails, but xenon headlights? Those are nice.

In fairness the the sport, the headlight projectors do a great job, much brighter than my P5 with silver stars.

Oooo.. Sport. That explains it. My bad. ^_^;;

Projectors > other reflectors

I used to hate replacing my burnt out Silver Stars every few months.

Congrats on your new ride and hope you enjoy it! I just got the MS CAI installed (well... my friend did all the work while I read the instructions to him) on Saturday. It was a major pain in the rear. *^_^*

Nice!!! So whats the first mod???! LoL CAI??

we have meets here in cali wehn we have 3-7 ms3 in one place usually half or more than half are cosmic blue! seams they all came to cali!!

car looks great reminds me of well mine!!
looking good!

Congrats and welcome.

Great car, you'll love it. Put a CAI on it asap. The noise scares the deer for miles! lol. Drive your car, it is already broken in. Just make sure to let the car cool down properly. That is the most overlooked aspect that new turbo car owners get wrong.

HAve Fun!

Love the color!

I completely understand about your eroded soul - took a speed3 for a test drive a Pinnacle Mazda and now I can't stop thinking about it...

By this time next year, I'll have mine! At least my wife and I both agree on the car AND the color LOL

Yes, I want a MS CAI immediately, first I need to become un-poor though. That should happen soon enough, then I'll start looking around for one.

I'm glad you mentioned the cool down, cause I've heard that but didn't quite understand it. Does that mean when you park it, just let it idle for a minute before shutting off the engine?

It's always good to let a TC'd car idle for at least 30secs after running it. If you run it hard, let it cool down for about 1 1/2 minutes. Keeps the oil from getting gummed up in the turbo.

Yep. Idle for 2-3 min. before you shut it down. Get the oil changed at 3k miles and on your 2nd oil change, switch to a synthetic or synthetic blend. This will help keep the turbo seals from committing an early suicide. I run regular oil with Lucas Oil additive for the last quart. Cheaper than full synth, but you will get the same benefits as full synth. No matter what oil you decide on, get it changed often! This engine will cook any oil rather quickly. Cooked oil is great for french fries, not so great for high hp 4 cyl turbo cars.

I got my Injen cai for $237 shipped. Surely you can scrape up this small amount of money. It will free up the airflow so much! Better mpg too. Sound great tons more power and was really easy to install. (less carbon on the tailpipe too)

Thats all?! Please tell me your secrets! I will get one sooner than I thought then.

Great advice everyone the cool down time, I never thought of that. Then again, I never had a turbo before either.

One question about a possible problem with my car. When I am going straight, and usually while in neutral (probably because I can hear better) I'll sometimes hear an odd humming sound like something is rubbing. Its a buzzing sound, if I had to guess I would say something related to the wheels. If I move the wheel back and forth a little it goes away. It only happens sometimes.

I knew about it before I bought the car, but the dealer said it would most likely go way after breaking in a little more, and to bring it back in a few days and they'll take a complete look over it. Just wondering what it could be and if anyone else ever encountered it?

I'm not worried about it much, I'll take it in soon.... plus that's what warranties are for.

i'm not sure if i'm talking about the same noise, but sometimes i will hear something weird usually while parking but that might just be because that is the only time it is quiet enough, its not very loud
