2002 Ford Focus ZX3
So for the last year or so i've been saving money to buy parts with for the focus. well i went to the bank today(day off) to see how much i've saved, its around $8,200. But now that i've got that much i dont know if i want to buy parts anymore. I only owe $5k left on my car so maybe a new car could be possible. i got a few idea's and here they r:

1.) Buy Parts.
2.) Pay off The Focus, Trade it in and buy something new.
3.) Pay it off and keep saving.

I can afford a nice car such as a Evo, RX8 or a 350z. I start college next fall and i don't have to worry about rent because i still live at home.(i know 18 and still living with at ur moms is sad but hey saves me alot of money and she doesnt mind as long as i'm in school.) I just want other peoples opinions or maybe different ideas. thanks for ur time.

get rid of the farticus (evil) Go Mazda and never look back :)

if you've got the funds for an EVO VIII....save a lil' more and wait for the IX! woot!

I agree, pay it off, enjoy not making payments, and then get the new Evo, or if you find something else to spend it on go nuts. But I say keep saving for sure man, and then get another car later on. Not making payments will be a sweet thing man.

Are you paying for any of your college tuition or books? If so, use the $ for that. Otherwise you'll be in debt big time after you graduate and you'll have to drive a geo metro for 7 years.

If you're not paying for college, I say go with option 3. You don't sound sure about buying parts. That means that eventually you will regret spending money on them.

The old man in me says put at least $2000 in an IRA. Do that for several more years, and you'll be looking at hundreds of thousands by the time you retire. Then buy an Aston Martin.

By then an Aston Martin will cost 4 billion dollars.
edit: he'll have enough for a down payment on it. (evil)
edit#2: and I'll still be driving a 30 yo p5

do like me!!!! take all your money and piss it away get student loans, trade your car in every 2 years get 10K in negetive equity have to pay off 30K in loans make 55K a year and still be in debt until your 32!!!!!! Thats my plan and so far i am kicking ass at it!!

God i wish i could go back in time. I would have kept my wrangler! and had 2 houses by now and a retirement on the positive equity on just those!!!! Instead i am paying 26k on a 17K car and still have 20K to pay on my loans!!!

The College i'm going to is only a 2 year college. It's really for kids who are poor and grow up in with a single parent houeholds. The state covers the tuition because of that (Free Education!!!) so thats how that works. But I think I'm Gonna go with Plan 3. Seems like everyone on here regrets getting a expensive car or a loan they cant handle so soon. Probably around this time next year I'll Consider a evo 8 or wait till the IX comes out. Thanks for everyones help.
