Yes, when I pick up my car Friday or monday or whatever, I talked to the guy, apparently i DO get my engine warranty back (i still have 10000 miles and its a rebuilt engine)

this was very imporatant, because
1) if they fix it and they didnt seal something right, i'd be stuck with it
2)peace of mind

Apparently they do engine work on a case by case thing, they dont just VOID the warranty forever. they fix it and give you the warranty back then next time (if there is a next time) they will again re evaluate and decide again what to do (warranty or not)

I'm happy. I'm going to get it in writing from the dealer, but he said mazda will actually give me something or whatever.

I'm not leaving until I get it in paper.

sounds good to me.. I just found a new dealership I am REALLY happy with.. I am getting a new clutch for free after 17,500 miles.. They actually call me too!! thats nice..

I would be interested to hear how the "paper" is worded.. and it's nice to see your not getting screwed byt the dealership

i wouldn't let myself get screwed by a dealer, worst case is i have my LOCAL dealer call this dealer (we have bought 7 mazdas from my local dealer, both mazda service managers know me when I call :D)

a free CLUTCH!? how???!

Probably the TSB Mazda released regarding 2002 Protege 2.0L MTX's....Most dealerships will be very good about replacing a clutch if the describes the problems as what is in the TSB...It regards to a fualty clutch disc or something that cuases sever cold start lunging, and in some cases it will happen after normal temperature is reached...I have about 1000 miles left on my warranty and I think I will take it in...it does not apply to 2003 protege's I don't think, becuase the pieces were replaced in the factory during assembly...

The best part is that becuase of that TSB, there should not be a need for a tecnician to drive the car or anything...The whole point of TSB's is to make certified dealers aware of certain complaints that will most likely come in, and make the repair process much more efficient...Check the FAQ and print out the actuall TSB regarding the 2002 clutch, and take it to the dealership...with it in hand they can look it up to verify it is real, and most likely replace the entire clutch with no questions asked (obviously tell them you are having the lunging problems too)...no tech's driving it and saying "it felt fine to me, but if you have the problem again bring it back"...

Being that the MP3 had an indentical clutch system as any of the pre 2003 FS or FP 5-speed cars...I would assume so...You might want to contact ED or the dealership about that...

and I mis-worded that kind of...The TSB applies to 2001 ES and LX models (I assume MP3's too) 5 speeds, and 2002-2.5 5 speed models...

this is simpler...any car pre 2003 5 speed with either a FS 2.0L or FP 1.8L engine is covered...but I cannot verify that includes the MP3 even though it matches that criteria...

i got a new warranty when they replaced my motor. goood thing too because i only had 3k miles left on my original warranty

hrm, will my new engine warranty last 36000 miles or whatever even though it was rebuilt??

oh.
when i asked the dude to put the warranty thing in writing he told me (i get it back) in writing he said it wasnt necessary, mazda would give me something or he would give me something from mazda... either way i aint leaving without warranty! :D

(hmm)

make sure it is in print on letterhead with someone who has some authority signature on it
