Hey everyone. It's been a while since I visted it back here. I am happy to say that I found a 2001 Mazda Protege with the 2.0 engine near where I live. I really want to buy it. It's a 5 speed, and has about 66,000 miles. It's at a used car dealership, and they want about 8K for it, which I can afford, but I wanted to know if I can bargain a bit to save some $$$. I just went up to the place and drove by it real quick. I didn't really look it up and down, but from what I could tell it looked good. I will check it out though more if I can. But if it is in good shape, do you think 8K is a good asking price? Also, it's not my favorite color (gold= grandma and grandpa color :-)), but I'd just be so amped if I could get the car. It's the only 2.0 I can find this close. :-) Now I just have to show my dad and try and convince him... I'm 17 years old btw and have been driving for a little bit more than a year in our 2005 pontiac vibe.

Sorry I posted this subject twice.

Yup. It's an ES. I'm so excited. I hope I get it. I contacted the dealer, and I'm going to try and take this saturday off from work, so me and my dad could look at it. It also has alloys, which I'm also glad about. I'll give you the link, so you can tell me what you think ;-) Also, the exterior isn't really gold. It's tan, so I guess that's a bit better. Sorry about that:

throw down a few more k and id be willing to sell my protege5....comes with some mods.....

Sorry, but I'd rather have a car that's not modified yet and start from scratch. :-)

Now I just have to take this saturday off from work, and I'll be checking out this baby. (bowdown)

If I get it, first thing I'm doing is a CAI. (glare)

its not really modified all it has done is springs and struts, obx header, megan racing short shifter, and awr front motor mount. asthetically it has a dgm cf grill, jdm tail lights, and the australia real badging for the car. thats basically it not too much....but good luck finding one!

Yes. The pro5's are nice. If I could find one around here, I would get one. Your car sounds really cool, but I'll be ok with the sedan. But why are you selling it might I ask??? And if I do get this car, I might buy some of your parts, if they fit. :-P

i dont know if ill part it out or not though.....i porbably should but feel lazy. the car has 33 and some change k miles on it and is fully paid off. i kinda want to sell to get something else probably the ms3 if its under the 25k range...if not a mini cooper would be nice or the new gti looks nice, maybe a regular mazda3 who knows but i love the p5 i just want something a little quicker really.

I wouldn't really get an intake as your first mod unless you want to increase that highend but if I were you the first things that needs to change is suspension or exhaust. For the intake just remove the top tray and the snorkle and put a K&N Filter and you are good.

Yeah. I was thinking about replacing the filter element only as well. It'll save money... And sometimes the stock system isn't always as restrictive as people consider... Thanks for the advice. :-)

im going to be truthful here and say this....if your looking for power and not too relativly expensive, this isnt the car for you. i hate to say it but n/a is limited with our cars and boosted power is well but our engines tend to go boooom sometimes or little stuff....

so in all honesty if i were you i would work the s*** out of the suspension. i am running espelir springs and tokico struts and i love em, sure the rides a little harsher then stock but it handles well! id start off with springs and struts if i were you then move to front and rear sway bars, thicker ones, and then finish up with the gt spec line.....some nice 17's or light 16's and your set!

Good luck with the purchase. Where abouts are you in NY, there are quite a few of us scattered around the area.

I've been into cars a good amount of time, and I take auto tech. I know very well that N/A limited cars are limited. And I would never boost any car I got that's N/A, because it's N/A for a reason. I also understand the time that goes into such a vehicle to add forced induction. If I want a turbo'd car, I'd buy one. I'm not looking for like 450 horsepower or something. Lol. I'm not looking to add on gobs of power at all. I would just like a well rounded car. Balanced in all areas. Most people don't understand the essence of a well rounded car, and they tend to do horsepower only modifications. Well that's good and all if you want to drag race, but I would like to use this car for autocross or track sessions on the weekend, while still keeping it as a great daily driver that doesn't go over board. So on other words, I believe this is the car for me... But I appreciate your advice a lot and I understand the point you are trying to get across. Thank you. ;-)

I'm in Farmington. It basically says it for itself. I'm surrounded by tons of farmland. But it does have nice backroads for driving. ;-)

It's not hard to turbo this motor since the msp came with the same motor and since you have a manual its all that easier. You can run like 200whp properly tuned and you want have a problem. Most ppl turbo in a weekend. I will be turboing mine soon.

Cool man, there's a few guys out there with proteges. Stop by the NY sub forum and check out some of our threads.

Sounds good man. If I get this car, maybe I can hang out with some of the NY guys. :-)

Well, I think I'll keep it N/A... See how I do with that setup... First I have to get the car though. Lol. :-P

just reread a apost or two and saw that you'd be interested in a p5 as well, there are a few around here (Rome) for sale, a white 2003 and a dark blue one. I think I saw another one kicking around somewhere as well. I can go grab you pics of the two P5s if you want.
