HWY 128 Fun Run

Well after seeing what kind of scenery could be had in the bay area I thought there just had to be something close to me as well, it couldn't all be tract housing and strip malls. Low and behold there was one right off of my f*ckin' street. Russell Blvd in davis turns into HWY 128 at Winters and that's where it all began...

What can I say about this drive except that it was the single greatest driving experience in my life. The yokohama rubber and the JIC coilovers were definitely helped with that too. This drive has something for everyone. Beautiful scenery, tree covered roads and views that would make a naturalist nut in his pants. For the sport compact minded enthusiast there are sweeping turns opening to quarter-mile straights, hairpins, drops, dips, crests, and s-curves galore. If WRC was to ever come to the US this is where they would go. Did I mention that it is beautiful? Being a mere 10 minute drive from my house I think I will start driving out here to relive stress. Words cannot describe how good of a time I had on this road so I'll let the pictures do the talking. Keep in mind that I took most of the pictures whilst driving so I really couldn't get any of pictures of the really technical parts of the drive. Instead I was concentrating on the road as my car ate up the curves and asked for more, which I delightfully aquiessed to.

I had a couple followers but non could keep up with the handling on my car. An SUV was trying to play follow the leader on my tail, almost losing control and getting their passenger side tires out of contact with solid tarmac and instead a ditch. There was also a Saab 900 following me but could only keep up on the straights. I didn't think he had the cojones to take the 25 mph turns at 50 like I did.

Anyway here are some of my favorite pictures from the drive. I took over 40 of 'em. I wish I took more. PM me if you want some more or the full size 1 megapixel shots.

Here is a nice little straight I hit on the way there just before hitting the Dam that makes lake Berryessa

This is where I stopped and turned around to go home. The whole place was totally calm and beautiful. Not a single house or store, just the way it should be. The second picture is looking in the opposite direction of the first. :D There was a riced out civic parked next to me and he stopped fishing to check out my car. He must have heard my loud ass exhaust.

HWY 128 links Napa to Solano County so as expected there were a lot of vineyards. This was an amazing view and even a picture couldn't do it justice.

With how well maintained the roads are on this highway I think it would be an insult to my ca if I didn't let it cut loose on something like this

Some mo'

I took the chance to take some pictures of the more exciting turns while stuck behind some holiday travelers. Can you say 20 degree banking (turns like this were abundant)

Surprisingly holiday traffic was light. My coworkers thought I would have to turn around. Unfortunately when there are lakes there are also these. But they are nice and will pull over to let you pass given the chance, so I wasn't behind them too long.

Here is a shot from the top of the dam looking down on to Putah creek the very same creek I run along in good 'ol davis CA

Here is a nice wide turn you don't get very often to yourself. Lucky me!

How about some responses and experiences of your own. Happy driving (silverp5) (drive)

Yeah really who knew that something like this could have existed a mere 10 minutes from my house, which is situated in the sacramento floodplanes(translation flat desolate crop fields)

UMMM...There are a few places like that on the way out to Jackson taking Highway 104(i think)...That's a long way from you guys though...I like those banked turns:) WHat are the chances of cops being out there....In places like that near my house, they like to hide out and catch unsuspecting speeders...I cant afford any more tickets. Looks like fun though. We might have to check that out soon.

Might I suggest - Woodside Road ... off the 101 in Redwood City... bit of a Drive for you, but WELL Worth it

you can start from the Redwood City Side and get all the way down to Santa Cruz from there ... or Vice Versa ...

Prime Canyon Run area in the Bay ... I'd take pics.. but umm... I live in vegas now =p

Just Trust me on it ...

That place looks beautiful! Damn. If it wasn't soo frickin' far, I'd be up there in a flash! Unfortunately, my "flash" is three hours each way :(
Here's a couple of hwy 236 pics I stole from the web, just to keep the "fun road" ball rolling.

Woodside Road (84) to Skyline Boulevard (35)
As you drive south on Woodside road, you'll eventually pass through a little town filled with little wooden shops (literally) and enter a part of the road where the tall forest trees surround you. Even though you intended to drive on Woodside and Skyline in a mellow mode, you can't help but speed up. The turns of the road begs this of you.

And a Sample of what Inexperienced drivers can expect when they try to take on Woodside road without doing a Dry-run first

Apparently, the MINI people like that run as well ..... ( if you're not too familiar with the Peninsula area of the Bay area, the conversations may seem a little cryptic )

I didn't see a single cop the whole time. The thing is it's all business. It's mostly used by cruisers and people towing boats so the cops don't care that much. There is another road that is supposed to be nice that is on the way home for yo kind of alex. We should check out the garden highway in south sacramento as well. Here is a sample pic of what is around there
