I was on a road trip with my brother and father a while back and i had stopped at a gas station to get some gas. My brother has a portable DVD player that plugs into the cigerette lighter. Well, i had the radio on while he was watching a dvd and i turn off the car completely, take keys out and everything and the radio continues to play.....im like WTF....well i am turning on and off the car and it doesnt go off...well about 15 minutes latter (Radio Still on) and i pull out the dvd player plug from the cig. lighter and the radio goes off.. im like WTF???????
well i plug it back in and turn on the car and then turn it off and the damn radio is still playing.....
NOTE; The radio doesnt stay on when i have any other device in the cig. litter, just the dvd player....
anyone have any idea why it does this....
to this day i can plug the dvd player into the lighter and if the radio is on when i turn the car off it stays on....
i think my car is possesed by some sort of car demon!(yes)

thats definately a big HUH??? ive never used my cig lighter so i cant say if this type of thing has happened to me. how long will the radio stay on after the car is shut off. would it stay on till the battery died?

yea, i am pretty sure it would stay on till the battery died. i have left it on for about 30 minutes before and it didnt seem like it was going to turn off. ..
this only happens though when the dvd player is plugged in and turned on....otherwise the radio will just turn off with the ignition turned off.

More than likely the battery in the DVD player is backfeeding the electrical system in the car.

that sounds extremly sketchy, the only time sumthin happined with my Batt is wen i left my ipod charging all day, the batt was completly dead, i had to jump it, it sucked!

Yup I too would say the Batt in the DVD player was powering the HU. soon's the car's voltage isn't chargind it, the player's battery is being drawn upon by anything else on the circuit.

the radio could be drawing the power form the batery of the dvd player (scratch)
it sounds like it is possesed though :D

The same thing happened to me in my fiance's 6. We both couldn't figure it out until I unplugged the DVD player and everything went back to normal. It doesn't do it if my cell is plugged in, just the dvd player. What kind do you have, I have a cheap ass Apex digital that lasted 3 months and won't play anymore.

It can not be the battery from the DVD player. The head unit is connected to a remote wire that controls the on off function of the radio. The remote wire is hooked up to a relay that is controlled by the ignition being on or off.

If you have an after market radio and it is not hooked up right, the battery might be keeping the radio on. The remote wire and the power wire to the 12V plug would have to be in parallel somewhere.

I will check my car later with a continuity tester to see if it is possible that the stock remote and 12V plug use the same relay that would make them in parallel.

yes, but the cigarette lighter turns off after the ignition switch is turn off. maybe the reverse flow is somehow keeping the circuit open, and hence the radio is pulling from the battery of the dvd player instead of the car battery...im not even remotely sure how the relays are wired, but it could be an anomoly within the wiring system....

It must be a short between the remote wire to the radio and the power wire to the 12V plug. I used a continuity tester in my car while it was off between the remote wire to the radio and the power wire of the plug. test showed no conection. The only thing I can think of is a short.
