HU/Amp/Speaker Installation Questions

:

Hi everyone,

I have a Pioneer FH-P8000BT head unit, Infinity 475a amp, and a pair of 6830cs component speakers for the front. I've been reading through the forum and still have a couple of questions.

1) I was planning on putting the amp under the front passenger seat. With rear vent, it looks pretty tight. Has anybody installed an amp under the front seat? How have you blocked it up to clear the vent?

2) when running the cables, etc from the head unit, are you running down the center console for power and line level wiring?

3) For the speakers, I was planning on running back to the head unit and tying into the P5 wiring harness so I don't have to rerun the speaker wire to the doors. Does this seem reasonable?

4) I still haven't decided what to do with the rear speakers. I'm stuck between simply going with something like the infinity 5032cf or stepping up to the 5030cs. I'm just not sure I need to add separate tweeters to the rear seat. Thought?

5) Both speaker sets mentioned in #4 are 5 1/4. It's my understanding that those will work in the rear with speaker brackets.

6) Lastly, the factory sub is still in the trunk. Unfortunately I can't seem to find much info about it. I'm sure it's not earth shattering, but that's ok. I'm just wondering if it's worth trying to tie it in since it's there and I'm not planning on adding an aftermarket subwoofer.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Bill

I know when my install was done on my p5, i had both amps mounted flush to the back seats, in doing this all the wires running out back are completely hidden. As for the wiring itself, i know that power was brought in through the firewall of course, and as i have my speakers wired into my amp (one amp is there to power all 6 speakers) along with all the other necessary wiring it was all run underneath door cil's on the driver side. We had decided on this as it was the best course of action. Mounting the amp under the seat is convenient but can pose problems, especially if you have people riding in the back frequently.

I would go under the passenger seat, if anything. On the back of the rear seats is the best spot

You should always run power and signal/RCA lines on opposite sides of the car to eliminate the chance of noise from the power wire. I ran power down the driver's side through the OEM harness boot in the fender well.

With that amp you have, it should be OK. Anything over 75W RMS, I would run new speaker wire directly from the amp. It is a b**** to get it through the molex, but it can be done. I have 7 wires going into my driver door (4 speaker wire, 3 for window control) and 4 into the passenger door.

4) I still haven't decided what to do with the rear speakers. I'm stuck between simply going with something like the infinity 5032cf or stepping up to the 5030cs. I'm just not sure I need to add separate tweeters to the rear seat. Thought?

Just go with the most basic infinitys in the rear, you don't want to throw off your front stage. No separate tweeter needed in the rear.

Correct.

It runs off the high level signal from the OEM Head Unit. If you are going to do the speaker wire method in #3, it may not work because it probably can't handle that much high level power. What you can do, however, is run the front or rear speaker wire leads off of the deck, to where the sub taps in so it can pull signal from the deck instead of your 4-channel.

Hope this was helpful!

On the rears you can fit a 6.5. I put some in with no modifications, they put out a little more bass than a 5.25" which isn't a big deal since they are in the rear and you can't hear them much over the fronts when it's turned up.

I just took the amp (Infinity 475a) out to the car and it doesn't look like there is any way that it will fit under the passenger seat. There is a dip in the seat that only clears the air duct by about an inch.

I'm not a fan of mounting it on the back of the rear seats because the reason for switching to a 5 door from a sedan is so I can throw my gear back there, etc.

It does *appear* that there may be room on the right side of the spare tire by cutting out some of the plastic tray. Any thoughts on doing this or other places that the amp could be installed?
