Heres a Hot To on researching prospective buyers/sellers, when you're selling or buying an item.

It seems simple, but if everyone does this, it's an easy way of finding out who you're buying from or selling to.

Under [Market Place] -- [For Sale / Group Buy (Non-Vendors)], there is a great feature on checking out your fellow members who has purchased or sold items on the site, and its the first sticky:

Sticky: Rate / Review your fellow Members!

As of November 21, 2006, it has grown to 24 pages, with 360 total posts; itll take some time to find a person if you search every page. Heres an easy way of finding your prospective buyer/seller:

1. Click on [Rate / Review your fellow Members!]

2. Next step is to click [Search this Thread] (on your right side, next to Thread Tools), type the member youre searching for (best to use their screen name), and click [Go]

3. You will now have a list of all the members that left feedback for that person youre searching for.

Quick note: Please spell their screen name correctly so the searches would find all their feedbacks.

I thought about doing this for a while but never got around to it.

Some additional advice.

Buyers:

1. Search for all posts started by the seller. Has he sold anything else?

2. Double-check all pictures. Request more if you feel you want them.

3. Suggest paying half and half - half before, half after.

4. Don't be afraid to file a PayPal claim if you're unsure about the person.

5. Request an alternate method of contact - a phone number is good.

6. Have the seller's address written down. First so you know it came from the right person, and second so you know where to go looking for the seller if needed :).

Sellers:

1. Stay organized! Maintain ONE thread and keep an upated list showing status of purchases for multiple item sales. Keep track of dibs there, too.

2. Remember you are selling the item on YOUR terms. That means you ultimately decide who you sell to.

3. Protect yourself! Take pictures of the item you're selling on its way into the box to show how it was packaged.

4. Get the buyer's contact information.
