how ? any ideas how to let the RH Side mirror tilt down by itself when you shift for R for back up ? The mirror will automatically go back to its previous position one the shift has been changed to other gears. any infos how to do this?

I agree...sweet idea for those that need/want it...but it would require some computer assistance and memory settings based on position, requireing sensors of sorts......I think this is a bit much to ask of an aftermarket mod. I think it would not only be very extensive....but an extinsive mod as well.

Jason if you have one side mirror pointing down it is easier to see how far you are from any obsticles behind you... or if your in the lines or not whatever... its more for show i think thats what he is going for unless he nedds persize backing up on a daily basis

Actually NONE of those reasons.....

there was a thread here not to long ago about someone curbing one of their rims while parallel parking....someone brought up the point that what THEY do is take the passanger side mirror and drop it as low as it will when backing up so that it looks at the curb....that way they can ENSURE that they don't curb one of their rims while parking...

THAT is why jtphl would like his mirror to point down AUTOMATICALLY and then return....

It's the same thing that BMW does on their cars. When in reverse the pass. mirror drops down so you can see to back up better. The circuitry is all tied into a computer however and is part of the mirror/seat memory. Depending on the seats equipped, BMW's will 'remember' more than one driver's settings. You simply hop in, push the button for your program and the seats and mirrors all set themselves.

hee hee, the mirror thing was my idea.....been doing it since I got my license....always had nice wheels to watch out for I guess.

Haha, and here I was gonna pipe in that I'll bet anything at least some of the luxury cars out there have a feature of this. The solution is to get that mirror as well as the computer from the Beemer and put it on our cars. :)

I do have to say that this would be an excellent feature to see on a lot more cars, not just the expensive ones either as it doesn't seem like it should be that much more expensive as you'd already have the power mirror.

yea my dad just got a new 530i and showed me the mirror trick one day. its pretty nice, especially since if you curb a bmw rim, its gonna be $$$$ to replace. he said he had to get lots of extra crap like that just so he could get the sport suspension etc.

there's no way you can use the system from the bmw on any other car. its part of the ecu.
