How To: Kill your turkey with stock pipes

I don't have any yet. This will be something I will do in the summer. I have a bunch of things I want to do.

Got_Boost02 - The flange on that page looks like it should work fine. Keep your fingers crossed that it's the right diameter as the insert plug or else you'll have to find a reducer/enlarger to go between the two. I have an HKS SSQV.

Mach - I'm assuming you're referring to the 1G Eclipse BOV adapter, right? Or is the 2G the same?

Anybody going to try this with an additional BPV instead of a BOV? Can anybody think of a good reason this wouldn't work? Also, for those of you that are concerned that your "partner" won't understand, tell them the truth. Not only does it make a neat sound, but it also protects and extends the life of the turbocharger itself. Compressor surge is damaging over time. No shame in protecting your investment.

Hell, that's what I'm going to tell Mazda if they try to give me crap about it if I need warranty work done. "I installed that BOV/BPV to remedy a problem that should have been fixed before the car ever made it to production,".

I think it would work very well. All you would need is a new fitting on the intake to accept the additional air. I don't think that it would work to have both BPV's running to a single spot on the intake. If you have the injen, then you could just weld a new one on and run the new BPV to that. I have actually been considering doing this with my SSQV for awhile now.

I guess I really should get an Injen, if for nothing else than to keep from hacking up more of my stock piping than I really need to :)

I'll post when I'm done, but honestly I'm sure several people already will have by the time I can afford to do this.

Thanks for the writeup, Mach!

MSP2736 - You shouldn't have to touch your intake pipes, just your intercooler-to-throttle body pipe. I have no idea what eclipse the flange is for, it just came with it. I'll try to get that info for y'all. I'll keep you posted.

Edit: Unless you're running a dual BPV setup. Took me a minute to figure that one out. Duh

I agree about the warrantee issue. I don't see how this could cause them to void it. If anything, I'm letting boost out of the engine. If I installed it wrong, the engine has less power than stock. That's why I used extra caution not to touch the vacuum line running to the wastegate actuator. I hear that if you mess with this the dealer gets pissy because any restriction causes an increase in boost.

Pimpin the bracket

I decided that the BOV needed a little reinforcement, even though it seems that it doesn't move much at all. I can't tell how much it moves when it's blowing off though. And I was bored, so I fabbed up a little bracket to attach from the BOV flange to the plastic "loop" on top of the IC pipe. Check it out in these pics. I painted it silver, it's not bare metal.

Since there are quite a few questions so far about where I T's into a vacuum line, I took another picture for you. I hope this clears things up a bit.Vacuum line location

If anyone wants to see this setup, I'll be at the auto show this weekend. PM me and I'll try and make sure to meet you there. If I don't answer, here's my cell phone #:

Don't abuse it!

KILLED THE TURKEY!

well, everything worked out perfectly!! i did the same setup as Mach 3.5 except i used a Greddy Type S BOV, and the sounds is amazing. no turkey, very responsive!! i think thats because i gave it a dedicated vacum line, and it likes it. i also came up with metal brace similar to Mach 3.5 to stabilize the BOV a little more. i feel really comfortable with the setup. i owe it all to Mach for the pioneering. i took a bunch of pics if anyone wants me to put them up, let me know, i will. thanks!

Got_boost02 lets see those pics... just want to see what other way some else did it..

no, sorry, like mach 3.5 said, because the jb quick sets up within 4 minutes, i didnt want to screw thins up, but it was the same basic way he did it. the setup is perfect@!

hey mach 3.5 i did the install with a greddy type-s just like got boost but my car keep wanting to stall when i go to neutral.could it be cause i might have a leak somewhere or what is it?he says his works so mine should work as well no?i did it just like his except i dunno where he got his vacuum source from.

TheJohnny - I don't think Got_Boost02 is having any problems. Sounds like he loves it to me. He said the exhaust smells funny, but I doubt that the BOV is causing that unless he's blowing off every 2 seconds. Where did he mention stalling?

Mach 3.5 Turbo - You are right I don't think that guy is having problems.

On another note, Do you have a boost gauge and where is it tapped into? The vacumn feed you use for the BOV I have ALREADY used for MY boost gauge....I was concerned because I think you said in the past the BOV enjoys it's own vacume source....

II-Savy - I don't have a boost guage. I don't intend on upping the boost until I've done some serious work on the engine first so I think it would be rediculous for me to put one on. I think that since we're running esentially two BOVs, they don't need a dedicated vacuum line. If we were just running one BOV, we would need a dedicated line, but I think running a T'd line is just fine for this situation (less air, less vacuum). I T'd mine off of a line for something else (see the pics a few pages ago) and it works great. No stalling, no surging, no nothing. Free flow
