HOW TO Install MazdaSpeed CBE on 2008 MazdaSpeed3 pics/vids

I have been contemplating buying a cbe and now that I have heard the mazdaspeed one I am sold on it, performance will be the same across the board on all give or take a hp or two and the sound is loud enough to add to the car without it sounding over the top., my question is this , do u need a cutting tool to remove it ? could it not be done otherwise? asking cuz I am low on tools and whenever I do a mod I consider the cost of the part plus the tools that I do not have ...anyways great job on it and mr cobb has a couple of months to get the ap out or it will be a cbe for me next.

There are two ways to do it.

The easiest and fastest way to do it, is to cut the stock exhaust. You'll need either a hacksaw, or a rotozip tool that you can buy at your local hard ware store. I've had mine for about 4 years, and I only whip out for certain things...this being one of them. :-)

The other way is to drop the entire rear suspension JUST to get the stock exhuast out. This route will allow you to take it out as one whole piece and still be ablt to re-use it.

You'll still be able to reuse the stock one that has been cut, it'll just have to be re-welded together. Hope this helps.

Well the problem with the exhaust setup on the MS3 is that its path goes directly under the driver rear suspension. And to take it out as one peice is nearly impossible. Only way out is cut.

Same goes for aftermarket parts. My TBE was only two peices for the CBE because of this.

^yup, what he said about it going through the rear suspension.^

The stock can be taken out as a whole, you just gotta drop the rear suspension, PITA I bet. I was going to try it, but without a shop manual, I won't attempt it. Those shop manuals go for 200 bux, at least that's what the dealership quoted me! (shock)

I had my dealer remove my stock exhaust as one solid piece. They did drop the rear suspension to get it out. Got it for sale if anyone is interested ;)

Another reason someone would be inclined towards the CBE is also for warranty related issues. Granted we don't get near as much power with them, but I am willing to bet that a lot of us don't want to have to swap back to the turbo back system whenever we need to take the car in for warranty related repairs.

I can't wait to get a cbe. Emissions in cali are probably crazy so I gotta wait to see what I can do out there before I do it. I hope I can atleast get a high flow cat with a cbe. Awesome write up though, I thought about getting a ms cbe but still waiting

You can always get a CBE. The MS3 runs 2 cats so you can always get a race pipe without a cat and still have the stock cat thats on the downpipe and be legal.

What are the HP and torque gains for the mazdaspeed exhaust?

next to zilch really. to get the gains, you need to do the whole system from the turbo on back. so that means you'll need to take out both cats that come on the car. Or use a hi-flow cat that is available with a down pipe from one of the companies that make it for our car. i need both cats so I won't need to worry about cali emissions. I know i can take one out, but if nahhh... (drive)

Thanks for the write up! I'll be trying this in a few weeks for my HKS CBE. I wonder if I can use a reciprocating saw to cut out the stocker?

Thanks for writeup. I cut the stock piece with a dremel and a diamond cutter thing, worked pretty good. Didn't expect to get a power increase from cbe but for the first time, I got torque steer. Could have been just the ambient temp and road imperfections, but my friend said the same thing when he drove. The sound is almost stock, which suits me.

thank you for the props guys!

@ John; if you can fit that reciprocating saw in there, then you should have no problems.

@Saitech, there may be a slight increase, without an actualy dyno; baseline and after, there is no way to tell really. however your car may have gained some juice from the CBE upgrade! yey yey to more power!
