How to disconnect Bose subwoofer

I agree with most people here that the Bose subwoofer is terrible. It muddies up the bass unless the base is turned way down. I am thinking it might sound better without the sub. I looked at the subwoofer under the passenger seat and I can see the box itself with some wires running into it from under the carpet. There is also a control box of some kind that is attached to the bottom of the seat with three wire bundles connected.

What is the easiest and safest way to temporarily disconnect the subwoofer so I can see what the stereo sounds like with it disconnected? I know that some of the wires must be for the airbag weight sensor, so I don't want to touch that.

Thx.

Good luck with that. Most of those systems need to be bridged to bypass the amp that controls the box.

I don't know about bridging and stuff, but on the rear of the sub on the left side there is a white plug that'll come off without too much hassle.

Other forum members have found that the muddy bass comes from the door speakers resonating the doors. One person properly sound deadened his front doors and listened to the bose stuff again, the bass quality was greatly improved.

Yep.

Thats how you disconnect it. That other bundle of wires and "control" box is your passenger detection device for the airbag system... Ya.. don't touch that one.

I had to do the same thing! More than $4 of quarters were inside, and I had to disassemble the sub to get the last few out.

My sub is blown and the car is only 4 days old. Anyone know what size speaker is in there?

It's 5.25" or something like that. Hardly a sub. Are you sure its blown? I think its more likely that something (coins?) fell into the port or you are just hearing the door speakers rattling stuff. Either way your car is only 4 days old, take it to the dealer and let them figure it out.

No coins and I checked each speaker individually for the rattling and Nada. It's the woofer. It flutters regardless of volume when there's bass. So far, I am kinda disappointed and annoyed. I traded in a good 08' 2.3 sedan for the MS3 becuase the base sedan left me wanting more... On top of the woofer, I have deal with the 34-35 volume issue as well. Wish me luck!

The Bose sub is a 3 or 4" driver in a massive plastic resonant chamber (or "acoustic waveguide technology" as Bose calls it, LOL). You could probably make an enclosure for one of the 10" or 12" shallow mount subs (Pioneer, Clarion, JL Audio etc) and replace the stock sub with a much better one.

My issue is that eventhough the sound is loud enough I am not getting the lows that should be coming through. My other vehicle is a pickup that I put a 10" subwoofer into. Nothing really earth shaking but there are quite a few songs that I listen to that now on the MS3 do not have the same depth.

I guess if you never had a subwoofer before you might not notice.

I think I will add a 10" to the rear hatch area and remove the Bose subwoofer.

I definitely have the 34-35 volume issue. What's the deal? Is there a forum for this?

whats the 34-35 volume issue? I think the highest I've had mine is 20, I also have to 10 inch JL subs in the back so maybe thats why
