im relatively new to the tuning world, and i was just looking into turbos for my P5, it would help my search for one if i actually knew how the hell the turbo works. dont discuss the obvious, like forces air into the engine, i know that, but details, and all the parts required, like what the heck is a blow-off valve? and why do you need to put higher octane levels?
i just find it very interesting, but cant find any info on it

Pick up a copy of Corky Bell's Maximum Boost. Or if you have a lot of time, cruise the forced induction forum. Also, check out howstuffworks.com

A "BOV" is a valve that releases the pressureized when the throttle butterfly is closed. This prevents compressor surge. (causing the turbine to accually reverse it's direction, which will reduce the life of the turbo)

Higher octane is a must to prevent detonation.
