How nice.

Trouble with Atkins is, you look at a potato and you gain 5 pounds. lol (ya'll know Dr. Atkins, died way over weight right?)

Try not to eat at least 2 hours before you go to bed. (some people stop eating at 6 or 7). Eat foods high in dietery fibres (fruits n veggies). And try controlling your portion size. I LOVE carbs. Rice, Pasta, breads.... I only keep whole wheat rice, pasta and bread in the house.

I'm sure you already know how important excercise is when wanting to lose weight...

yeah back in the day I played soccer, football, volleyball, softball and occasionally hockey. But ever since my arm...I can do none of that

exercise is KEY to a healthy lifestyle, yes. That's how I have lost so much thus so far. I am sure if I were to lay up on the sofa all day I wold still be losing weight, just not as quickly. But damn that, I am an extremely active person. I can never sit still. Ask my friends. :D

Actually Dr. Atkins died of heart attack related problems.

Eating right before you go to is not necassarily a bad thing. If you eat several time a day (Suggested 5-7 times) you'll raise your metabolism and eating right before you go to bed will keep from having a drop in motobolism while you sleep, but if you don't eat all day then eat right before you go to bed then you have a greater chance of storing that as fat.

Are you talking about someone cutting off you arm so you could lose 12 lbs? I said that wouldn't be a very good idea....

They probably just look too muscular to you. Alot of girls worry about that, but i'm gonna guess that they are toned with good definition...

Right. It's amazing how rumors contort with time. What's even more amazing are the people who choose to perpetuate the twisted truth without taking time to verify the validity. (headshake

He wasn't over weight but he didn't really lead a good life style. He had a heart attack and died later. I don't remember if he went into a coma or not.

lol. no I have this pain in my shoulder that goes from my neck to the tips of my fingers. Ive been to physical therapy, massage therapy, a chiropracter, on pain medication (that stopped working after a while) Ive been stabbed with a 2 inch needle to read my muscles, and shocked to read my nerves. they cant find a problem. The only thing that really takes it away is ibprophen. The pain isnt nearly as bad as it was when It started 4 years ago, but I think its just because Im building up a high tolerance for it. If I let the pain go I cant even pick up a can of coke.
alas I am doomed to suffer for the rest of my days. (dunno)

Have you been to a nerologist? That almost sounds like a stinger. I got those playing football. The pain would shoot down you are and you wouldn't be able to move it for a while. Then you'd have pain for a couple days or so, but your is permanant.

I had a lot of injuries back in the day. I got hurt in just about every sport except weightlifting but that kinda suffer because of the other injuries....

I cant remember ever having an injury to my left arm. I stopped playing sports long before the pain started. I remember the day I felt it. I was walking to class with an empty bag hanging off of my shoulder, (empty because I took the binder that was in it out to review something) and it just started hurting. I wasnt sure what it was but I had my head down on the desk for most of the class and I just sat there in a sickening pain. It stopped before I went to ceramics and when I got home I went out with my at the time boyfriend and when he was driving me home he got the same feeling, freaked out thinking he was having a heart attack and I spent most of the night in the ER confused and tired. my mom came and got me and his arm never hurt him again. But I still have it.
The doctor that shocked and stabbed me (lol sounds funny) said that the next step would be for me to get an MRI. My mom refused. She didnt think I really had that bad of a pain and took me to a doctor about a year after it started. The chiropracther said I twisted a rib and cracked my back a few times. I wasnt a fan of that at all and never went back, the physical therapy helped a little. They had me do exercises to improve my posture because they suspected that I was misusing my posture muscles and they were becoming inflamed and pressing a nerve when it swelled. In one month of therapy I gained 17lbs of sqeezing pressure in my right hand and 22lbs in my left hand. I dont know why that was relevant to my situation but the therapist seemed quite suprised by the change.

Dr Atkins was supposedly admitted to hospital at 195pounds. 8 days later when he passed he was 268pounds. Now lets do the math...

6 ft, 195 pounds = 26.1 BMI = Overweight (granted not by much)
6ft, 268 pounds = 36.3 BMI = Obese

He was admitted to the hospital after he slipped on ice and fell, went into a coma, had bleeding in the brain. 2 years prior he was having heart problems...high cholesterol.

I wasnt posting this to say Atkins was a bad way to lose weight. I know many people who swear by it.

I was posting this to say how ironic it was that the founder of this diet, died overweight thats all.

If that's it, then it really really sucks. My buddy, Sarto, slipped a couple discs and it's a real freakin' pain. There's a big loss of flexibility and everything else...but he feels the pain in his back more than anything.

This may be a good way to loose weight, but it's not a healthy lifestyle. Ingesting all that protien and fat found in meats and poultry will increase your colesterol even if it lowers your weight. (This coming from my mom who is a degreed and certified nutritionist). It's very possible that Dr. Atkins heart problems were due to high colesterol as a direct results of his diet. The safest way to live on this program for an extended period of time is to eat fish as your main source of protien and limit the amount of meat, pork and poultry you eat. Without the nutrient intake from eating fresh greens your body will not be able to properly break down and expel the waste products found in most meat. You'll still loose weight, but in the long run you could end up just as or more unhealthy than when you started.

You should also take a good daily vitamin if your on the atkins diet.

One thing to really look out for if you want to loose weight and remain healthy is Corn Syrup. This is used to replace sugar in about 90% of the products on the market. It's done so because the US government subsadies (sp?) farmers who grow corn. Corn Syrup taste sweet like sugar, but can not be broken down as easily. It's also really high in transfat, one of the leading causes of colesterol buildup. Corn Syrup is often found in processed meals (like frozen dinners, micro wave meals, chips, soda, you name it) so it is best to always make the meal yourself with freshly bought ingredients. I know most will say they don't have time, but you really do. My wife and I make our dinners together every night, it takes about 35 minutes and gives us a good oportunity to spend some quality time together too.

And as everyone said EXCERSISE is key. A 20 minute jog, or other arobic activity, 3 times a week will produce dramatic improvements in your physical form. Especially when combined with a healthier diet.

Just so you know I'm making this all up: I'm 26, 5'8" and have maintained a healthy and lean 150-155lbs for the last 6 years. I'm not a health nut, I don't workout all the time or watch everything that I eat, I just do a little of everything and keep things in moderation. I also only eat a meal till I'm not hungry, not till I'm stuffed.

I was talking to my anatomy teacher about it and he said it doesnt take much for it to happen. So that might be what happend. Guess Im going to have to get an MRI to find out.
