Hello everyone.. I live in Canada.. so we don't get HID for the 3.. how much you guys in US paying for it as an option? or is it a standard equipment?
I'd like to know where can I get the OEM HID headlight and from where..
thank you =)

hmm as far as i know, aftermarket HID's are now illegal. as for purchasing HIDs from mazda, itll be rediculously expensive. welcome to the board and hope someone can answer u better! peace - chris

I'm not sure where you can buy it after-market. But the US package is this:
1XT Xenon & TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) Package: MSRP: $700 Invoice: $602. That's what it was when I ordered my car in New Jersey. It's about average for good xenon lights. My dad owns a Lexus SC430, and when he asked about getting Xenon lights for his car later in his lease, they told him it would be about $450 each.

You can probably find HID (fake Xenons) lights at custom car shops. They're not as bright or as powerful, but they are much cheaper. I bought low-end HID lights for my Jetta 4 years ago, and they cost me $50 for a pair. They've blown on me once in 4 years. So it wasn't that much of a waste.

Hello everyone.. thanks for the replies.. the one selling on ebay is too expensive for me.. $475US for each side.. that's a lot ..

I don't know it's illegal.. I think I have seen so many non-xenon car have xenon on it.. that's why.. but I think cops won't bother to pull you over.. if the light is installed properly.. which means not blinding other drivers on road..

I do have experience in a xenon car.. n' the light output is really great.. much much better than hellogen..

I bought my HID kit from seller cartech on Ebay. $375 shipped for 8300k bulbs hella balasts and all wiring/relays needed. The cutoff on the stock projector is perfect with the HID's, they don't glare at oncoming traffic at all.

I'm not really familiar with all the HID kits that are available and what size I would need in order to get them... What are the measurements I should look for so I don't get a kit that doesnt fit... Are you talking about this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=36476&item=2462489927 ... and would these fit on a 2004 Mazda3 Hatch?

That is the kit that I bought It worked perfect, the only thing that didn't come with the kit was the washers needed to hold the bulbs in place tighter.

What about replacement bulbs. Since aftermarket kits are illegal (and yes I understand that with projector cutoff and even with the cutoff on the protege5 (very crisp) it should be ok) is it hard to find the replacement bulbs? I'm thinking of buying this as my next mod but if down the road i need a replacement bulb and none are available i'll be unhappy.

Trust me, you can still buy the kits without any problem. The lights are illegal for on road use. However, if you were to use these lights on a vehicle kept on private property for private use, then the local laws have no jurisdiction so long as the vehicle and it's lights effects are localized to your property.

That's why most if not all sites/manufacturers selling these types of items instruct you to check your local laws.

How bright are they? And do they have the effect where as if u look at them from different angles they are blue and from another angle they are white? I've heard that with the 8300K lights like these that they stay blue, light the road up blue, and arent very white at all... do you have any pictures?

They are VERY bright, but don't seem to bother oncoming traffic(no one has flased their lights at me yet). The lights are not extermly blue, but you can see a blue tint from any angle.

nice pic SSinstaller =)
but I think I would go for the 4300k (4100k?) whatever it is .. the orignal HID color.. this is the brightest(20% brighter than those blue one).. and and since it's illegel .. you can fool ppls w/ no knowledge of HID saying it's just a higher voltage replacement white bulb..

for replacement bulb.. my suggestion is get the philips.. I think their light bulbs are the most reliable.. don't get those cheap ones w/ blue tint on the surface.. it will peel off over time.. I m not saying all of them.. but it happened on my bro's car before..

Dallas area...

I called my Mazda dealership and asked about the OEM kit, and they quoted me a price of $746.35 per light. I didn't ask about installation costs, as I didn't have the energy to pick myself off the floor from hearing the price. (argh) Oh well.. maybe next year. :>
