Yeah boost is the only way to go, there is nothin better
I ran N20 for a while on the old motor, blew a piston a 225 shot with the stock internals. I'm too much of a speed freak on the road for N20 to work for me.
I was filling my 10 lb bottle 2-3 times a week on the Camaro, but on a V8 150 shot it lasts alot less than on a shot for a 4 banger.
The Miata we planned on boosting before we even bought it. I want to pick up a Supra twin turbo for a car for the wife but she wanted a Miata, had everything spec'd out before we bought it. Now we're just finishing it up.
I'm going to put the Z up for sale(or is for sale)...if it sells I'll get a C5 and put a big single on it, if it doesn't sell I'm going to yank the motor over the winter and put in a LS6 aluminum block to save 110 lbs off the front end. Went originally with an LS1 iron block because we had no hard data on 500+hp aluminum Ls1 blocks, but after seeing a few people put out near 1000hp I'll go back to aluminum if I have the chance.
I looked into boosting the P5, it needs it, but I've spent enough money on cars, doing it to the Miata was no big deal because it was a used car. If I can get a non-intercooled cheapo kit for around 2K I'd do it, or fab my own intercooler setup from spares I have access to. But I don't want to dump another 3500 into it.
The 4 cylinder crowd gets ripped off IMO. My kit for the Camaro includes 2 GT Series Garret T37's, 2 Bar and Plate intercoolers(not the rad type), a Y Pipe, manifolds, and a helluva lot of tubing to make it all work, easily 4 times the material of some of the kits being pushed for 4K. Mine cost $4,900 and thats because I wanted the 37's, for $4,500 I could have went with 35's. Yet kits for the P5 are only around 700-1000 cheaper, yet with only 1 manifold, 1 turbo, and alot less tubing and other crap.
I spent 3500 on the Miata kit, which was a little on the high side but it came with some premo parts, but still its nothing compared to the complexity of my Incon kit.
