02 Protege 5
HI guys new guy from Toronto Canada here. Just bought a P5 yesterday, get it next week and Im stoked. I got a deal which I thought was good, got an 02 silver manual loaded with roof cert and e tested for 4000$... timing belt and water pump have been done, no accidents, and it is in decent shape. The only down side is the car just rolled 200,000 KMS. Being a 1 owner car and a Mazda I am hoping this car has lots of life left.. So how many KMS are on your P5?? anyone hit 300K anything else I should look out for with the high KMS? look forward to chatting Mazda's as I clean this car up and modd it, tastefully of coarse.. just picked up 10K HIDS today..

cheers(thumb)

249,000 kms

Are you running factory suspension? Mine is stock and I noticed during my test drive it was a bit rough when on bumpy roads. Have you changed any strut mounts or bushings? I would like to tighten it back up, any susgestions on common wear n tear for these suspensions? Most likely I will be pulling a corner or 2 apart once I get the car and figure out which side is the loudest and feels the most worn.

you'll want to change out the endlinks on all sides if that hasn't been done before usually they're the source of clunks when you're going over bumps.

and when you said the ride is a bit rough, do you mean the car is stiff over bumps or the ride is in rough shape?

The stiffness over the bumps is a character of the protege, most consider stock springs soft.

10000k hids and you're asking to get attention from T.O's finest. Remember to reaim your headlights when you install them

I know people in the GTA area that have pushed 300+ but the end was near.
but then again i also know people that had oil burning issues well before 200k

car will probably rust away before the motor gives you any real problems.

Yah I meant the ride is in rough shape cause it is a bit clunky but Im not concerned considering it has 200K, thanks for the info on the endlinks I will be checking those out. I have a Dodge Neon with 10,000K HIDS been about a year and a half without harrassment so Im gunna go for it on the P5 too.. Im actually in Peel also, Brampton to be exact.

I did the endlinks at 175,000kms but the rear endlinks could and should have been done much soon. I waited till three out the four failed to replace them all.

I had my mechanic replace them. I tried to get them off but found it difficult since I didn't have the proper tools.

It cost me around $100 per endlink to have them replaced.
