how does this sound?

i have a 2002 mazda protege, and i want to replace the factory speakers.i am still going to be using the factory head unit.the speakers i am looking at are...Infinity Kappa 572.5 cf for the front, and infinity kappa 692.5i for the rears. both of these speakers can handle at least 100 RMS.i want to also add an amp in the future to feed these power hungry monsters, could i add the amp to the same head unit, or should i just invest in a new head unit? Any opinions are welcome cause i am a newb....thank you

Adding the amp to the factory unit is very possible and fairly easy. Also it will power the speakers far better then any aftermarket headunit can.

For only $200 the Alpine MRP-F240 is a nice unit.

Welcome to the boards, check with your retailer. They should have a line converter to turn the rear speaker wires to Line level for the amps. :D

No need for line converters as many amps have speaker level inputs

i noticed the amp you listed up there was a 40w x4.the rears are rated at 110RMS, and the fronts are rated at 100RMS.my question is what would you say is the highest amp i can go that i dont blow those speakers?

The alpine is a nice little amp and sounds pretty damn good, nicely priced at $200.

The front speakers you listed are rated at 2-100 watts rms not just 100. That means 100 is the most you should think about using, not the least! I'd still use more but i am partialy brain dead :D.

Ofcoarse more power means more money.

Also I personaly wouldn't waste money amplifing the rears. Keep the amp for up front. Using the same alpine amp you can bridge it to 100 WATTS RMS!(wow)

However if you want to power everything the little alpine is more then capable. You can keep climbing the ladder though. Next up would be the alpine MRV-F340 delivering 55x4 the next step is the JL 300/4 giving out 75x4. And the crazziest ass amp you could use is the JL 450/4, 150x2 + 75x2!
