How Do You Know If You Blow Your Motor

I am voting this funniest thread ever!

Like everyone said you will definately know if you blow your motor and it will most likely send metal pieces out the side of the block. Do a google search for "eclipse GSX blown motor" very funny video of a guy who races a M3 in a GSX and blows his motor to smithereens.

As for the backfiring:
It's no biggie...as long as you don't mind smelling exhaust whenever you drive your car. Personally I like the smell and I backfire all the time. Just give your exhaust system a once over and make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks that can increase the frequency of the "bf"

Or find the post on this forum that has the NSX Dyno video..that s*** was funny...

that dude didnt even flinch! how do you blow up a NSX motor and not even give a crap! I would be crying.

Then again, I bet he's loaded and didn't care..
He was probably like, "you guys wanna go get a burger or something..?"

I don't know about you guys....but do you rev all the way up to the limiter for a launch????

for a GSX it makes sense. Being AWD you can drop the clutch from redline and it will hook up. It won't be great for the tranny or clutch but it will hook up

For a MSP all you will do is spin the tires if you drop from redline

No way. All you'll get is wheel spin. I can't launch over 3.5k at 13psi. If I go anything over that, it's wheel spin and hop.

I'm just talking about hitting the rev limiter at a stop to begin with.... Maybe just me, but seems like you are heavily increasing your chances of blowing your engine by just doing that!

The GSX owner most likely blew off a wastegate line and overboosted the hell out of the engine

This is the aftermath! Can you say dead engine

aftermath

What's even more funny than the fact that he toasted his engine is that he doesn't know his ass from a hole in the..well, engine when it comes to identifying parts. (rofl)

haha the passenger is like "omg you blew your motor"...he sounds like a ***. God I just noticed how bad I would feel if that happended to me

I first hand know how bad it feels, heh. I had a 96 Escort drop a valve seat and trash the engine (3 pistons and the head). It only had 72k miles and was six months out of warrantee. I can't complain too much however. I ended up with my P5 and a Miata out of it (after fixing it and selling it). :D

That's a "two step"- it is like having two rev limiters- one down low on a clutch switch or something and then the one up top. This enables you to hold the gas to the floor on the rev limiter, build boost and launch.. The one in my talon was set to 6250 and it would make 14 psi before the clutch was even released :)..

Those videos are great.. Yet another example of why the 3G DSM's blow donkey balls :). The motors suck ass and don't hold up like the 1G motors do- I have seen 500+ WHEEL HP out of 1G motor and the 2G's are good to 400 crank max..

PS- the aftermath video is funny- the guy is clueless- I like the "foreign objects in the piston" comment- they are there to preven the piston from expanding too much- all hyperutectic pistons have them- can't remember the "proper" name for them, but they are cast into the piston.
